Understanding China

The POGOS were Chinese owned and operated scam and internet gambling centers. 1000s of Chinese there and most were military age men which concerned some people.

As far a drug use in Vietnam most US guys that used drugs there were using drugs long before their arrival in Vietnam. They didn’t need any encouragement from the “commies”

Singapore restricted US military personnel on R&R from Singapore because they introduced a drug culture into Singapore.
PS: The old opium smokers were dying out with not much recruitment.

It was the drunk fighting I thought
Dry ships are always a problem
When a large ship is in port you only see small groups thats for sure

Long before your time in Singapore.
I’m talking about the late 1960s, when there were an agreement that Singapore would allow US military personnel on R&R from Vietnam to spend their time in Singapore. US Military rented hotels for them to stay.

I remember Country Club Hotel on East Coast was one of those.
It got a reputation for wild parties, introduction hard drugs.
The parties were attended especially by hookers, but also other Singaporeans, incl. young females.

The drug use spread to other young people and became a problem in Singapore.
In early 1970s Singapore restricted US military personnel on R&R and introduced strict drug laws, incl. death penalties for anybody found with over 15 gr. of pure heroin.
Forced drug rehabilitation, starting with “cold turkey” and followed by 6 months in a closed rehab centre.
This is controversial, but has proven relatively effective and popular among the majority of Singaporeans:

In early 1971 the agreement with US for R&R in Singapore was cancelled. (This does not include visits by US Navy vessels)

PS: Of course the US version is that it was because the number of personnel in Vietnam was reduced. In Singapore it was well know what was the real reason.

I remember this well as I was among the first not allowed to go to Singapore. I heard a lot about it, all positive and regretted not being able to go until my obligation ran out. Mid 70’s was great and was offered a small landed house for around $50,000. I thought the price was ridiculous at the time.Singapore has evolved to a point where even LKY would have a difficult time to balance things there now, but it’s nice to think about how he’d try.

They need LKY back now, the current mob have no idea.

Here is what you missed they made a movie about it.
Banned in Singapore

Yes that is correct; all is built on lies, but who is doing the lying?

Here is a more up to date story that MAY help to understand how the Chinese Government is thinking and acting on current affairs:

no surprise here

My s.s cookware is tri-ply All-Clad using U.S.-sourced stainless steel. It seems I need to test the lids, as they may not be American metal. I used Lodge cast iron from the 70s until the 90s, and never used non-stick stuff. Stopped using my cast iron when I read about iron overload in men. China will be the death of us all, eventually I suppose.

They certainly dont care about their comrades but what to you expect from commies
The party is more important than 65 million comrades as they have shown before.

PS: I visited China in the 1960s, 70s, 90s, 2000s and 2010s and have seen the development first hand.
