You can add dictators and other tyrants to that list. Given the political gerrymandering that is prevalent you add whatever political party has the majority in the respective State as well.

I actually want to see you excuse the following two contemporary examples of rejoining with the motherland like you do for China:

Russia reclaims Crimea. After all, the 2014 referendum conclusively showed 97% of the votes reported favored rejoining Russia.

Israel continues to settle their ancestral lands. The Palestinians abandoned the lands so why shouldn’t Israel occupy it?
I say the two examples above with a bit of sarcasm. Now fast forward a few decades:
- The island of Taiwan rejoins with glorious China. A few generations of re-education should make the reunion a happy one!
I’d agree with you that China will take over Taiwan some day. They will use the tools of political and economic isolation to crush the resisters. However, that doesn’t excuse a glib attitude towards their fait accompli.

The ship did not have nuclear weapons. The BBC China was carrying gas centrifuges for use in uranium enrichment.
