UN Climate Change Report

“Changes in vegetation productivity have also been observed, as well as longer growing seasons,” the IPCC report says. Surely that’s good. In this, today’s climate, ruined by our profligate ways we live longer, healthier lives and grain crops are at record levels.

Nope. Not good at all. Bad, bad bad. Apparently, don’t look over there at the benefits. Look at the disasters. And don’t forget all disasters are the fault of evil westerners … not China.

Didn’t see any human causation in that link.

And here’s the founder’s view of Wikipedia.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb on ad hominem.

who said the planets climate is/was guaranteed to be for humans, we have only been here for a second in the 24hrs the planet has existed.
Dinosaurs had a longer history then a climate event wiped them out.
PS what was the date the ice age ended?

Don’t know the date, but I heard it was about 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

The complete name of the fallacy is ad hominem abusive.

More importantly, WHY did the ice age end?

(Making concessions that the ice age is still ongoing with permanent ice present.)

You’re losing the narrative. After this Northern Hemisphere summer, I’m guessing a larger percentage of voters will beleive that ACC is a threat. That’s all that matters.

Read up a few comments in his thread. People that weren’t inclined to believe ACC is a threat a while ago are now changing their minds. They might not be inclined to do anything about it, true. But younger voters? What is their inclination?

Reminds me of the Vietnam War. Older generation was mostly for it. Younger generation, not so much. Marches and riots. Screaming and shouting. The plug got pulled.

It’s all about special interests, coal in China and oil and gas in the U.S.

Special Interests Are Last Barrier to Fixing Climate Change

New technologies mean governments don’t have to worry about economic trade-offs, but fossil-fuel industries are still slowing progress.

Well it seems truth doesn’t matter, just the vibe. The world still hasn’t warmed since the last UN scare report and yet in a couple of months you expect more voters to say it’s hot today so we are warming the world. Why don’t they change their minds in winter?

Oh, and this is looking like it will be a cool year, not that actual data will matter, of course. We’ll see. We’ll also see what the politicians do in Glasgow. China won’t play so nothing anybody else does changes a thing.

And haven’t all these years of climate conferences and Paris agreements and Kyotos and such like done wonders for the climate thus far? CO2 levels keep climbing (as the earth fails to warm) no matter who yells about it.

There’s always sainted doom goblin Greta to save you. I see she has been named by the Archbishop of Canterbury as a prophet of the likes of Jeremiah and a Swedish church has declared her the successor to Jesus Christ. Drop to your knees and praise the real reason so many people believe. Who needs truth, data and facts when you have Greta?

…and again you bring up personalities and emotions.

I’m being dispassionate about things. What matters are voters. If you think you have the narrative–if you think that the majority of voters in the West believe that ACC is no big thing–then all your comments are wasted effort.

Do you believe that the percentage of voters who believe ACC is a threat that must be dealt with is increasing or decreasing?

Emotions matter. It’s what changes people’s minds.

Compared to what? Ask a single question and lots of people will claim they are concerned about the environment or climate change. But ask them what are their main concerns for their lives and climate change is never a top concern for the majority. They want jobs, education, health, law and order, lower cost of living, stability, prosperity. That’s what they want fixed. Those are the threats. Climate change might worry a few who have all of those other issues under control.

Look it up. Survey after survey shows climate change almost never gets into the top ten issues for people. And even if they are concerned, they presume someone else will fix it. Ask them how much they want to spend on fixing the climate and the answer is ‘nothing’. They will one day notice they are paying already for stupid schemes to fix a climate that isn’t broken.

Eventually the voters will vote out pollies who make their cost of living higher for no gain. Observe the reactions in the UK to stupid climate policies to ban cheap reliable gas heating systems. The pollies baulked at the looming outrage of their voters. They can see electoral Armageddon if they persist with woke, green schemes that hurt the citizens.

You answer this question.

THIS was the actual question.

Search for surveys asking what is the top concern for voters.

My belief, based on the news coverage that Northern Hemisphere fires, droughts, and heat waves are getting this year, is that the percentage of voters who believe ACC is a threat that must be dealt with is increasing. The number was increasing before this summer, just looking a the number of articles and threads in Gcaptain dealing with wind turbine installations, etc. But I’m going to bet the number of voters basing their votes on dealing with ACC is increasing more sharply.

You’ve lost the narrative.

we have done lots for climate change if you think humans both cause it and can change it.
We have almost done a 2 year shutdown of the world for an experiment.

Any change??

Winter’s coming.

The world has not been shutdown. You know that. People eat as much as they ever do, and Amazon has been delivering as much useless crap to people as it ever did.

Do you believe that the percentage of voters who believe ACC is a threat that must be dealt with is increasing or decreasing?

ACC-deniers are preaching to a shrinking choir. Conspiracy theories, ad hominem attacks, junk science, are all rearguard tactics.

You’ve lost the narrative, i.e. popular opinion.
