Ukraine

Pity. Ukraine could put the military equipment we generouslyd donated to the Taliban to better use.

If the Afghans had fought half as hard as the Ukrainians there would be no Taliban.

The Afghans who were Taliban did. That’s why they are there now.

The Taliban are like roaches. If we really did have a nuclear war and everything was lost, I’m sure the Taliban will crawl out of the rubble with the roaches…along with Dallas Cowboys fans.

Which says a lot about who the Afghans thought was the lesser evil.
However, there is no equivalency between the Afghans and the Ukrainians except that both were invaded by foreign powers. That never turns out well for the invading power. Both Ukraine and Afghanistan have corrupt governments, have had for many years but they prefer their corruption over that of any invading country. It’s just human nature.

Surprised I haven’t seen mention of the neutral merchant ships that the Russians have shot at. This blog is keeping track of them and other Naval happenings. Russian Naval deployments during the Ukraine War

Link that’s a little more focused. Japanese bulk carrier hit by missile, count of stricken ships rising to 3, Ukraine | NAMURA QUEEN - FleetMon Maritime News

This is true only of forces that do not colonize but occupy. If the culture can’t be subverted or otherwise changed then it is simply a waiting game. Ukraine(namely eastern) and Russia have similar culture, so when the dust settles it will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

I can see the possibility of the eastern regions behind a new ‘iron curtain’.

Could this possibly be the Sea of Azov. (We can believe what we want)

Russian billionaires are heading for the Maldives archipelago, according to the MarineTraffic website that tracks the ships. The islands are located southwest of India and have no extradition treaty with the US.

The luxurious yacht The Titan of steel magnate Aleksander Abramov is said to have been in the port of Malé for two days. And there are at least three more on the way, MarineTraffic points out. In the waters of the Maldives, for example, sails the 88-meter yacht Nirvana of one of the richest Russians, Vladimir Potanin. According to observers, many Russian yachts were docked in the Middle East at the beginning of this year. The government of the Maldives has no comment on the Russian interest.

On Wednesday, for example, aluminum magnate Oleg Deripaska’s yacht docked in the port of the capital Malé, about 600 kilometers off the coast of India, MarineTraffic reports. Deripaska’s company Rusal has been facing US sanctions since 2018. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine last week, new sanctions against Russia have been announced at a rapid pace by western countries. For example, a French minister threatened to track down Russian oligarchs in France and confiscate all their property.

The word Taliban means ‘students’ or ‘seekers’ in Pashto, one of the two official languages of Afghanistan .

Thanks for the language lesson. However, I was using the Western vernacular example of a religious extremist authoritarian terrorist whackjob.

It’s context that counts, Bug.

Looks like German snagged one.

It would be amusing if these Russian mega yachts got the same treatment in the Maldives that the French gave Greenpeace in New Zealand.

I’d threaten the oligarchs that their mega-yachts will be used to haul sheep from New Zealand to Europe as relief food for Ukrainian refugees. Can use the swimming pools as sheep-dip tanks.

Some hardware on the way; allegedly.
