TWIC Concerns

The only place I have ever been asked for my TWIC was going in to Port Fourchon via the road. They never asked for it when I was disembarking.
Sorry a billion dollar boondoggle is something to get upset about.

Never mind that a TWIC does no good at the airport, no you have to get a TSA precheck card to bypass the security lines. Thats another $85, and the same background check.

Get this I go online to sign up for renewal and they is no option to accept a current TWIC card as proof of ID.

How the FUCK does that make sense.
Not surprising… don’t you remember when the USCG RECs would NOT accept a Z-card as proof of identity when renewing/upgrading, etc…ha, ha , haa!

I got one of those US Passport cards just to have something else when “they” start saying that your state issued DL doesn’t meet Fed standards. My DL was heavily scrutinized lately at EWR by TSA because it wasn’t as good as 47 other states. There is no hope…

Even for domestic airplane travel I always carry my passport book with me.

You can get TSA Precheck FREE by having a redress number issued by the TSA. All you have to do is apply. https://www.dhs.gov/redress-control-numbers
They are supposed to be escorted from gangway to gate which usually means getting in a mini bus to and from, if they are allowed ashore at all. Same can happen overseas for a US citizen depending on which country you are in and what security level is in effect. Most of them just have a shore pass system in place though. I dont crew change in the US anymore so you are right it doesnt come out unless I have to send a photo copy to the USCG for a renewal. I guess it must be the longshoremen, truck drivers and other port workers that use it regularly. For someone holding a credential is sure seems redundant and a solution looking for a problem instead of the other way around. Just glad mine went well this time.
Yeah, lots of truck drivers. I have one to board vessels to handle claims and to get offshore by boat for the same thing. I use it more for flying than anything else, though and have never had an issue with TSA as long as I have had one and I have had once since they were first required. I have received a couple of odd looks, but it has always been excepted, even at an airport as far away from the coast as Denver. It IS redundant for seamen, in my view, and is of little effectiveness for others, but it is there. . . I am lucky that mine does not cost me, but we have a pretty reasonable policy when it comes to expenses.

Yeah, same here. Or any dock, to be honest.

Wrong. Redress numbers are for people have have been denied boarding or placed on a watch list.

Used mine today at MSY. Just fill out the form. They want to know if you’ve been delayed at sometime. For those who fly frequently it is not difficult to come up with something. I’ve never missed a flight, denied a boarding pass, or been placed on a watch list, but had no problem getting a redress number a couple of years ago after another mariner tipped me off about the program.

“I’ve given up with them and have written my senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine.”

Make a call the both of them and get the ball rolling. Letters take time.

Good luck and be safe!
