This is a pay-per-access article on Upstream but the gist of it is that Transocean has a tender out for 2 firm orders with options for 3 more. It says the 3 Korean yards plus Keppel and Jurong in Singapore are in the mix with the award likely landing in Korea. The rigs would be 90,000 DWT with 15000 psi stacks and prices in the $600-$700k range. It also suggests that these would be built on spec (no contract) which is a substantial departure from Transocean’s historical newbuild drillship philosophy.
