Transocean Signs with Jurong for 2 Newbuild Drillships

Transocean signed up for 2 new ships today with an option for 3 more. It will be interesting to see what comes out of Singapore compared to what the Koreans have been turning out. Does anybody have drawings/images of the Jurong Espadon III design?

Good Lord…really?

anyway, here is an artist’s rendering courtesy of Odfjell Drilling

well, at least they didn’t go to Keppel!

I like the rendering I found better…this one just shows too little detail and frankly looks a bit like a BULLY drillship with a conventional derrick although it does have four proper cranes instead of the stoopid two that the BULLY’s have.

Here’s another of this Espadon design from Odfjell

Still, even Jurong, good luck with that TOI, problems problems problems!

I just noticed that these don’t have sponsons! How is this possible? Must be more of that ole magic naval architecture where they sprinkle pixie dust on the hull before the inclining so that they’ll pass!

Nothing since the X-Drill and COSCO deal fell through.

actually, looking at that Odfjell rendering shown from the stern and above, it DOES look like these have sponsons! Meeheen has got to be behind this!
