I’ve see adds for company’s hiring master and mates for tractor tugs , then they ask do you have any tractor experience??? Well no sir that’s why I’m applying for the job to get the experience ,
Pilot told me this story;
Pilot is training an old-timer conventional tugboatman to do ship assist on a new high horse power tractor tug. They’ve been told to come in and push on a big Maersk containership, no line. The old-timer is closing in nice but at the last minute when he tries to slow down prior to contact he gooses it instead.
Pilot told me they hit the hull of the ship so hard they both got thrown forward, old-timer has his glasses knocked cattywampus . So the old-timer straightens out his glasses, takes a second to get his bearings, and says, “Take that you big blue bitch.”
They’re hiring “masters and mates”, not training mates…
When I read about this, I was wondering if it’s for ECO Alaska Operations.
