The Return of the Unsinkable: Billionaire Commissions Titanic II to be Built

This cannot be true…please tell me it is a horrible joke!

An Australian mining tycoon has recently made headlines after commissioning a Chinese shipyard to recreate the doomed Titanic in replica form. Every detail will be virtually identical, aside from modern technological equipment onboard to prevent another fateful maiden voyage.

Clive Palmer, a Queensland mining billionaire with strong links to China, has reportedly signed a memorandum of understanding with CSC Jinling Shipyard to build the ship. He said construction of the luxury cruise ship would begin next year and the ship would be ready to sail in 2016, reports CNN. His goal with this project is to build a ship that is as luxurious at the original RMS Titanic was, but with 21st century technology, and state-of-the-art navigation and safety systems. The Titanic II will, like its predecessor, have 840 rooms on nine decks.

The mining mogul also owns a luxury resort on Australia’s Sunshine Coast and plans to build a fleet of luxury liners in the future. The ships would sail under his company, to be named Blue Star Line in reference to the Titanic’s owner.

The new vessel is scheduled to make its maiden voyage from London to New York in late 2016 accompanied by the Chinese navy, if everything remains on course. The cost of the construction of the new ship has not yet been revealed. Some analysts are concerned about the challenges that this build will bring to a Chinese company, as they mainly build bulk ships.

The original Titanic – the largest ship of its type at the time – sank 100 years ago when it struck an iceberg on the night of April 15, 1912, on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. More than 1,500 people perished in the disaster. The ship had been declared as unsinkable.

OH FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY IN THE WORLD…THIS CANNOT BE? THIS ASININE PROJECT BORDERS ON THE OBSCENE!THE CHINESE NAVY ESCORTING THE SHIP!

FUCKING BILLIONAIRES AND THEIR EFFING MONEY! THEY NEED TO PAY MORE TAXES!

Interestingly enough it’s an apology of life, a little like second home owners, (don’t get me started) there are two points of view, either we challenge or we don’t, those with the money can purchase the means but that doesn’t make them clever, or a genius, they just have money. The cleverosity lay with the poor mind and skill set that are equipped with the very skills that only money can buy, money buys whilst skill pays… If it ever happens never ever let it be said that God can’t sink a ship. God bless’s endeavour but not a fool. Cuddles all round my sea fairing friends xxxx God bless us all in our daily work and may we all return safe to our families and friends.

WHAT?? a chinese copy…lol. Hopefully they WON’T have an Italian Captian. That’s nuts.

Now now, watch the blood pressure.

I can assure you that the billionaire who spends his money on a project like this is showering the common man with more money than those same folks would ever see if that money went into the general cesspool of the tax collectors.

Surely you know how many people it takes to build a ship, outfit it, paint it, fuel it, clean it, power it, crew it up … the list goes on and on to the tune of millions upon millions and about 10 percent of the total to build the thing gets spent on keeping it going each year.

The most rabid communist couldn’t devise a better method of “wealth redistribution” than convincing a billionaire to build or buy a yacht.

Well being a rabid anarchist, I disagree with you completely but then again, we’ve been to this dance before and my dogs are tired.
Well being a rabid anarchist, I disagree with you completely…
How can an anarchist justify calling on the government to collect taxes? That’s kind of an oxymoron.

A true anarchist would want the billionaire to spend all his money on stuff that puts the cash back in the working guy’s pocket, not the government’s.

I think more billionaires should buy yachts, keep American yards shoving out $100 million toys full of American made stuff. Twice a year Fort Lauderdale fills up with foreign (and domestic) cash as the big white boats cycle through the local yacht yards.

Support your local billionaire yachtie.

OK, I’m socialarchist… A socialarchist wants the wealth of the rich to become property of the poor before blowing them to tiny bits of flesh…(the filthy rich that is, not the huddled unwashed masses)

Support your local billionaire yachtie.

Like I have said before Steamer…we’ve danced this dance before and I was clear in that long ago thread that the billionaires can have all the obscene monuments to their tremendous wealth that they want but there is at the same time a defacto social contract which “to me” says that all those with more (which includes yours truly) owe something to all those with nothing. The wealthier you are the more you should owe. It is most simple and FAIR…is it not?

and here I was thinking you were a red socialist union man!

Maybe a little pink by today’s neo-fascist standards … but I do believe unionized industrial plants churning out engines and unionized mills rolling hull plates for big yachts is a great idea. The more people who feed off the billionaire and his yacht the better off we all are.

If you tax him and then blow him to little bits his kids will sell off the boat to someone who can’t afford it and it will rot after the new owner screws a bunch of contractors by not paying their invoices.

Would you rather the government threw all the guy’s money down a shithole like KP or give it to MARAD so they can charter a FOC bucket to carry crap for some defense contractor sponsored war somewhere?

That is the unfortunate crux of it all. If the money from the very rich actually went to help make that very large portion of the population left behind healthier, smarter, more productive and ultimately wage earners then the investment made pays returns to the nation as a whole as there becomes fewer people needing assistance and a better, stronger social fabric is woven “because of assistance”. Over the long term assistance done as an investment in society can reap tremendous rewards. Of course this is all pinko socialeconomic theory because we all see the money instead of going to build a better society goes to build a more bloated military industrial complex (of which KP is a part). Guns or butter…butter or guns…which ever shall it be?

Of course there will always be at least 20% of the US population that is so fucking drunk, drugged or just plain stupid that no amount of help can ever salvage them. Giving them assistance is about the same as throwing the money into a huge bonfire and burning it for all the good that it does. What is sad is that these people have kids and then they become just like the parents and the effing cycle just repeats itself over and over forever.

I really do feel terrible for the little kids. It is horrible shit luck for them if they are born to some meth addicted trailer trash whore. No kid deserves such that but tens of thousands get born into it each and every year.

.

One bennifit to burning the money would be less circulating. That would then lower our rate of inflation. Then say that 20% dies of starvation and we can then stop paying them and stop having Bon fires with the money. We could then cut our police force by 40%. Since the crime rate would go down. Then take all the money we are saving and either give it back to the tax payer or use it to pay down our debt to the chinease. Thats the anarcho capitalist approach to the problem.

sorry, but let’s not advocate that people die no matter whatever their miserable failings…
