I have not worked for Bouchard in the past 3 years so I canât comment on the current conditions.
I worked with a bunch of good guys when I was there so a relief was not a problem for me.
I did get fired one time but the office neglected to tell me.
I also got sent home every haul out but I worked all I wanted on other boats.
i keep hearing mixed reviews havenât heard back from their office anyway , just trying to move up from where Iâm at now
Overall itâs a decent gig, easy work, relatively steady reliefs, no cargo/ballast duties.
Benefits kinda suck, 3% match on the 401k, $325 a day rate including the per diem.
Advancement is difficult and there is fierce competition for spots especially for wheelhouse ones,
You will be laid off when the boat is in the yard, you will eventually be fired and rehired in the same day, and you will get frustrated with the office.
This about sums it up.
Does reinauer , bouchard , osg , have third mates?
Reinauer has âlicensed deckhandsâ sometimes and second mates (neither normal watch standers) Bouchard sometimes has seconds or training monkeys but they come and go. Not sure about all their boats. No idea about the others.
Usually depends who youâre moving the oil for really.
Iâve never heard of a third mate at Bouchard or Kirby. The second mate position is kind of a glorified tankerman position at Kirby. The plus side is it is considered a wheel house position so you can count your sea time towards a license upgrade. From the boats Iâve been on the second mate does drive, mainly offshore or on the easier routes.
^^^^^^^^ I second that
Kirby is supposedly adding a 3rd mate to ATBs at least in the pacific division. not sure how that will affect the rest of the ops.
Might be the big units cause Shell wants it. The atbs on the east coast have 3 wheelhouse people.
Did Norfolk tug loose those two barge contract with Kirby , miss gill and lucky d
No one is in drydock & they are towing the other to the gulf right now
Lucky D is sitting at their yard. I heard a rumor that the Paula Atwell was getting fixed up to replace either the Lucky or the Miss Gill.
I meant the barges
