What STCW training?

I would guess he is talking about BST, which is commonly mislabeled as “STCW”, insinuating that STCW only has one part.

I like to think of STCW as a Pizza, and BST is only one slice of that pizza…too many new people ( many of my friends ) think that they have STCW just by taking BST. They don’t seem to realize that they only have a very small portion of the STCW convention under their belt…

As for the OP question, I have heard but cannot verify that the certs expire 1 year after the class unless turned into the CG. But I have heard of O/S who sailed w/ certs only and turned in the BST certs when getting their AB past 1 year and were fine.

Hope this make sense.

What specific training, and what are you going to apply for?
