SOLAS V1 Regulation 2

Just wondering how you all think that SOLAS VI Regulation 2 will effect port and carrier operations? Since each and every container must have a VGM before it is allowed to load on a ship. This new regulation takes effect on July 1st 2016. The VGM must be provided well in advance so it can be used in the preperation of the ships stowage plan.

Your proffesional input is appreciated. Thanks in advance everybody.

Check out the first discussion on that topic here

I think that discussion concluded that the USCG is either totally ignoring their responsibility or the market will figure it out.

Thanks for the link. I looked and did not notice the link / topic. Sorry for the confusion. Although this will indeed be confusion which will result in even more delays in my opinion. What has your company done on developing the clearest, and easy way to help customers / shippers to comply with this new rule that will be taking effect in the very near future?

Left to be seen is if any Container Line, or by definition; the Master on any Container ship, will dear to refuse containers that do not meet the requirements to the letter.

In today’s market it will probably take an accident, or at least a serious “near miss”, attributed to wrong weight before anything change, unless Authorities steps in to enforce the ruling.

I agree enforcing the rule will be the problem. Educating the shippers will also be a challenge.
