[/quote]Wow nice pics!!! and thanks for the help
i failed the test
You’ve only failed if you give up. Call the local Junior College or even High School and hire a tutor. It will help if they can see a sample test. Good Luck and Don’t give up.
X2- Now you have an idea what they are looking for, it should go better for you next time.

Luck.Runs.Out,
sorry you lost the first round…“crack the books” and try it again…maybe get some free tutoring at the library or go thru the GED process if you don’t have an HSD…last time I worked PR Hornbeck towing division and South Puerto Rico Towing (Hector Padilla) were still arround and non-union…the last information is somewhat dated…GOOD LUCK!!
Check with the union hall on how long before you can take the test again. Ditto to the above, DON’T GIVE UP!!! The adventure is worth it.
yes i will be calling for another date in the future to take the test again,Nuthinfancy i send you a pm but i don’t know if you received
If you’re only 21 and you’re set on making a go of it in the maritime industry, than by all means don’t let anything stop you. Like previous posters have said, there are many resources (most of which shold be free or low-cost) which you can use.
Same goes for the ASVAB. If you know in which area(s) you’re weak in, concentrate on those and you can always give it a go again.
Bueno suerte!
I need some advice: I am a retired Navy CPO, and just spent months (and many dollars) getting an MMD with Able Seaman (unlimited), RFPNW, Lifeboatman, STCW, OS, Wiper, and Steward certs.
I have been looking for a job, but have gotten no hits at all; a friend suggested SIU, which means another 300.00 for physical and urinalysis, 25.00 for their book, etc.
I’m ready to be paid; does anyone know how long the wait is at a union hall for a job? All the answers I get are vague.
Thanks,
Chris M.

I am wondering how hard the math test is? That is, the test that is given for those trying to enter the UA program.

You’re have a “C” book so any A or B book can beat you for a job. But with the AB rating, you should still have a chance. It’s worth another $350 to be able and try to ship SIU. Also the holidays are coming up, so that means a better chance as well.
Are you on the West Coast? Give the SUP a try.
give me an estimate on how much qmed or AB are making coming out of piney point. I know I depends on contract but im just trying to get a perspective. looking to apply this year. thanks.

I was quoted 550 for the physical and drug card… that came from the port agent in Norfolk.
Luck.Runs.Out you don’t need to go to piney point to get started in the industry. Did you try any cruise ship companies? or MSC? You can try getting on with companies directly first, for whatever position they have available. You can always switch to where you want to be later.
