tell me these guys would look better in camo !
Then there was submarine camo …
All anyone has to do to figure out the uniform change is follow the money. Who came up with this bright idea to camouflage sailors on a ship? Who got the contract to supply? Who benefits? Not the sailors. I remember when they came out with polyester.Absolute genius. They melt and then turn you into a crispy critter. Who benefits? There are retired senior officers and lobbyists behind all these decisions. It’s not hard to research this stuff. Why did flame retardant dungarees and denim shirts with boon-dockers not work? Does the Navy need to make a fashion statement by camouflaging a sailor so he is even harder to find over board?
My ex father in law always had good things to say about dungarees…easy to care for/pack/stow aboard the ship…and you LOOKED like a sailor.
The old working blues (dark) of the CG weren’t bad…definitely hid dirt!
Immitating an oasis, SWA…early '91. Woodland camo, how tactical. Ugh.
Camo is also silly since they spot you and all your several hundred to several thousand shipmates automatically once they spot your multi-billion dollar ride.
This seems timely.
There must be a large secondary market for survivalists and wannabes who want to dress the part.
During WW11 the British Royal Navy ran short of material for sailors uniforms so they temporarily stopped making uniforms for the women who were then a seperate entity (WRENS).
The message informing all was: “The supply of women’s clothing will be held up until the needs of the fleet are satisfied.”
Yes they should dump the camo except for special use (shore party assault). If it is a cost saving measure (which we all know it is not) keep them till phase out. The best I have found for shipboard clothing is actually bib overalls or coveralls ( treated cotton or other flame resistant material). Nothing like a good flash rated poopy suit.
ok - these guys may have taken it too far
Tack on the original deck jacket and you have a winning combo. I got my hands on one years ago and had to unzip it in the dead of winter because it was a little too warm. Between these, the A2 jacket and the peacoat they had some sharp and very practical sea bag items.
