Interesting article that Trump has actually made free trade more popular with Republicans and Democrats.
This remarkable phenomenon seems to have arisen from a difference in perception. Republicans conclude that, since Trump appears to support international trade, it must be a good thing. Democrats come to the same conclusion, but from the opposite direction. They look at Trump’s tariffs and other anti-trade behavior and reckon that, since Trump appears to oppose international trade, it must be a good thing.
ACLED does not code a protest as being violent if no violent physical altercations take place between protestors and other groups such as anti-protestors or police. Under those terms, blocking traffic and/or harrassing people minding their own business is considered peaceful protesting. The people whose lives are upended by those activities might disagree with that characterization.

The crazy thing is tariffs were imposed on certain Chinese things imported into the USA but Trump has said time and again the Chinese are paying for what they import to the USA and it is costing the Chinese billions. That is bullshit. If I as a buyer of a Chinese product covered under tariff I the importer pay the tariff. I then either eat the extra cost or pass it on to my customers. Tariffs are like a tax imposed by the US government on its on citizens. Now one could say, “Why don’t you buy your products to sell from US companies?” Fair enough. I would if they were available and do when I can but the US companies operate in China now. So I pay the tariff, the customers pay the added costs and the US companies operating in China laugh all the way to the bank.
The rest of the world has International Workers Day. That title has a bit too sharp a point for most Americans. It reminds those who know little about labor of the IWW also called the “Wobblies” who were the target of anti-union thugs back in the bad old days. Unfortunately they became identified with the Bolshevics after WW1 and the anti-union crowd used that like Trump uses the term socialism to keep his buds in clover and keep his “base” riled up.
Yeah that’s the exact logic why so many democrats are increasing becoming in favor of free trade.
Blanket tariffs on certain goods imported from all countries are the most harmful to the consumer, tariffs targeted on specific countries are less harmful, but China produces so much stuff tariffs on them have the most effect.
Tariffs on China can have some positives, because they are so efficient at producing stuff other Asian countries like Vietnam and Thailand that don’t have a tariff have a much better chance at competing with Chinese prices, it makes countries less dependent on China for everything now there are other producers.
Allegedly some companies are making things in China shipping them to Vietnam then labeling them as made in Vietnam to get around the tariffs, they say that is illegal under international trade laws but it can be hard to police I guess.
Back to the OP. I’m not surprised how the boat parades are reported. Freeport Tx had well over 500 boats with no calamities and the local (left leaning) newspaper did not even report it happened. Then Matagorda had over 1500 boats with no issues with no reporting. Then Lake Travis with over 2000 boats, “5 SHIPS SINK”. Fair and balanced…give me a break…
Kinda looks like the experts in the bass boat forgot to plug the hole in the ass of the boat. Old ass Evinrude, they should know better. {Motor had nothing to do with it) Sheriff’s were probably laughing their butts off at these dumbasses. They were “Heroes” rescuing someone in 2.5 feet of water. The "OBX Voice " wasting what little space they have on this clown act. No wonder they refused help from EMT’s, too effing embarrased and not injured. Yes, the Bayliner Navy is alive and stupid as ever.
The invasion will be over soon. Just in time for some awesome surf fishing. In the meantime, let the bassboats sink in peace. They can walk to shore in most places without all the hoop-de-doo.
I had a neighbor in Houston who kept bugging me to go fishing with him on his bass boat. Once was enough. Running flat out in a few feet of water in some reservoir scared the bejeezus out of me.
Had a friend from Texas visit me in FL. He was a successful bass fisherman and great lake driver I enjoyed fishing with. He was excited to go out to the reef with me and fish. He wanted to run my boat on the way out and I told him to just keep it between the buoys. I looked up from bait rigging and suggested he not run over the birds he was going towards. He said,“They are between the buoys, what’s the problem”
Well, they are walking my friend and they don’t look like Jesus birds so you might want to get a little more in between the buoys. Tides and that sort of thing make a difference.
We caught some fish and had a good laugh.
