I am heading for Singapore Sunday. Any advice from you salty dogs?

Head to the 4th floor of the Orchard Towers, look for the sign “Crazy Horse”. From what Anchorman tells me… I’m certain you’ll have a blast.

Don’t chew gum in public.

Don’t bring gum into the country. More then a couple of packs is possession with intent to distribute. We will be seeing you on the next episode of Busted Abroad,

Don’t be yourself

Insider’s Journey to the Hottest Geylang Working Girls

…and for God’s sake don’t spit!

Bring a boatload of money or at least six major credit cards or an expense account! One beer at Hooters at Clarke Quay is $10US on a weekday. Without going to Orchard Towers plan to drop 2 to 3 bills for a big night in town. If married just stay as far away from the Towers as you can unless you can explain to your wife how it was you spent $6grand for beers during your month in Singapore?

Of course, if you want to be cheap…there’s always Chinatown where you can get a big Tiger beer for $6 Sing. I never understood why, but the big dish to order is Chili Crab but there is also a McDonald’s on just about every corner where you can get any of your favorites for pretty much what you pay in the US.

Enjoy. It’s really a pretty laid back country. The whole gum chewing thing is way overblown. Chew all you want, though most people don’t, just put it in the garbage can when you’re finished, same thing if you decide to smoke. The laws are not vigorously enforced but they do exist. Prostitution is legal so feel free to prostitute yourself.
Singapore is a very cosmopolitan country with people of many nationalities happily living and working there. Getting in and out of the airport there is a breeze compared to the USA and they actually seem happy to see you. You should go to the Orchard Towers just to say you’ve been and after that check out some of the other tourist venues. They even have Universal Studios and a Hooters which should make you feel at home though “hooters” is a relative term [think small].
You’ll enjoy your time there.

They really don’t “LOVE YOU LONG TIIME” unless their watch happens to stop.

Good luck and be safe.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Heading out in the morning. Not looking forward to the travel. Singapore via Moscow. Might be interesting. They have renamed the Sea Dragon to West Pegasus. I have a feeling it is going to be a cluster. I don’t think I will get much time for sight seeing. We will be going to the rig almost immediately. Thanks again everyone.

Via Moscow isn’t bad, doesn’t Seadrill fly you guys business class?[ Someone looking over my shoulder said, don’t complain you could be back on the Damon with Ace.] The round the world thing is really not that bad if you’re on a good airline going business class and most of the airports enroute to Singapore are nice. Once you leave the USA you don’t even have to take your shoes off to get thru security.
What are you going to be doing? It’s a shipyard and you’re a DP guy? Should be fairly easy to keep on location and not drive off in the shipyard or are you on to bigger things now?

On the Damon with Ace wasn’t that bad. My days as DPO are hopefully over. I don’t know how many more years I could have sat there staring at that screen. I am going to be the Stability Section Leader/Chief Mate. Shouldn’t be too bad. My main function will be taking care of all life saving equipment, on scene commander of the fire teams, deck surveys, daily stability calculations, the paint budget and what ever else I am given to do by the Captain. Seadrill is sending some drilling crew and marine crew to do the sea trials and get the Sea Dragon I (West Pegasus) ready to come on charter for PEMEX. I really don’t know what the situation is, yet. Under normal circumstances we would have been sent over a little more in advance. I am thinking we will be pretty busy this first hitch, well the first year for that matter. I think they want this thing to come out and be en route to Mexico by the end of the 1st quarter. Business class is the rumor, but it sure says economy on my ticket.

What is Chili Crab?

It’s not the same Crabs you’re use to getting in foreign countries.

IMHO…Orchard Towers…aka…“four floors of whores”…crabs and other “options” are free of charge!!

Where you at Lee? Talk to me buddy. Just read about a suicide bomber at the International Arrival Terminal in Moscow…about the same time you’re due to land there…and the same place.
