Sample CVs

I am looking to apply for an OS job. I just received my MMC in the mail and am looking to apply for jobs. I found a sample CV online and started filling it out. I have couple questions:

Does MMC = Seaman’s book?

This example CV seems very long with a lot of information not found in resume. Is that the norm?

Can you point me towards a good Example CV?

If you are applying for an OS position, you definitely don’t need a CV. Find a resume example and submit a resume.

Essentially, yes, but that phrase is most commonly associated with British credentials.

i’ll second the cv. captains maybe. unrated deckhands, definatley not.

get a resume template and hack away at that. keep it to one page and dont embelish it past reasonable. its an employers market. you need them much more than they need you right now, so dont give them a reason to circular file your package. hr people arent stupid.

your last 3 jobs and a brief accurate description of your daily duties should suffice. add to that certifications currently held and you’re cooking with gas. the jury is very much out on the value of an objective statement. i have a few friends from high school and college that went into hr. some of them read your objective statement, some skip it completely and some actually hold having one against you. i cant really get an intelligible answer as to why, but they seem to consider it a negative. i have one in my resume. other dont.

I’m a hiring manager in another job field. An objective statement IS useful if it summarizes what you can do for the company.

A good example:

Hard-working self-starter prepared to provide utmost effort to support employer missions.

A bad example:

Skilled worker interested in opportunities for advancement and company-sponsored training.

YMMV, but that captures what I look for.
