Sail ships

The BLACK PEARL outbound from Vlissingen passing Wandelaar Pilot station I understand that the vessel went out for trails during which the crew is trying to reach a speed of 30 knots using sails only.

Looks like a rip-off of Maltese Falcon.

That looks like a bulbous bow on BLACK PEARL. The first I’ve ever seen on a sailing vessel.

Other than that these vessels are both modernized “motorsailors” / three masted “square-riggers”, and have a similar paint scheme, they look nothing alike. Completely different hull shapes.

Bow bulbs have been tried a few times on sailboats. Generally they don’t work well because of some combination of not being deep enough, too much pitching, and not staying in their optimum speed range.

Ooops, I must apologize:

Not a rip-off but a development as Dykstra Naval Arc. was involved.
Bow bulbs - no opinion, I think we can trust on >yacht_sailor<
