There is nothing leftist about hoping for the removal of those who defend hanging the vice president, killing capital police, preventing congress from performing its duties and encouraging an armed insurrection in order to overturn an election in addition to attempting to suppress as many votes as possible.
I think that is called asking for law and order and removal of criminals and extremists.
The solution here is to use the tool we have to solve the issue: the law. Agree to investigate all causes of unrest in a strictly bipartisan manner, and subject those accused of breaking the law to trial, accept the verdict, and move on.
The law exists to solve these issues. As citizens, we need to demand that the law be used as intended, by all sides, and accept the verdicts. Or we revert to endless cycles of revenge.
I wholeheartedly agree with you…if it was only that easy. I see the problem is, and i hate to stereotype, most politicians are lawyers and are therefore wordsmiths. They can wiggle out of damn near anything. Add that to how the media manipulates things one way or another, how most of society believes what they want to hear…
But think of this: how is this any different than the founding of the republic? Many of the founders were lawyers. There were plenty of newspapers in 1776, many or all quite partisan. So it was in the 19th and 20th centuries. So what has changed in 21st century?
I hope not, so far so good. 47 comments & still pretty civil. Unless I get hammered this afternoon it won’t be me who makes it ugly.
I’m just saying, if the US war machine goes by their well worn playbook to get the entrenched political establishment to escalate into another proxy war I hope it’s near the water somewhere to help out the US maritime trade & not in some God forsaken dessert again.
This, I think is, is the biggest change to American democracy, and the biggest threat to the Republic.
There are experts who know with scientific precision how to sway public opinion. Couple them with experts who know exactly how to gerrymander political districts, and the ability for people to go on the internet and immerse themselves in echo chambers without meeting an actual human with a dissenting opinion, and you’ve created a world the Founding Fathers could never imagine.
With the tools to control the population that Hitler, Mao, and Stalin could only dream about.
Combine those tools with a large part of the population that knows nothing of history while following those who know how to avoid the pitfalls of failed dictatorships and we find ourselves where we are today.
Yeah, where we are today is all the former administration’s fault. It all happened in the last four years, and prior to that everything was rainbows and unicorns.
In case you can’t tell, i’m being sarcastic. And if you truly believe ‘where we are today’ is all the former administration’s fault, you are blind.
