Renewal wait time

As long as your application is straight forward, I believe the USCG has been fairly prompt in reviewing and approving applications. However, in the event you application is a little more complicated, hold on tight.

I submitted an application for raise in grade/renewal on November 17. The nature of my application meant it was kicked up to a supervisor. 83 days have passed since my application has been submitted and the USCG has still not responded. 83 days to review an application is frustrating, however, I have a greater frustration from the lack of communication as I have never been contacted by the individual/individuals actually reviewing my application. I contact the chat (or call center) and I get the same answer each week. Check back in later . . .

The computer system is also inadequate. I submitted the license raise in grade/renewal at the same time as my medical renewal. When this is done, two separate application numbers were created in the USCG system. This seemed innocuous until I tried to review my application status online. Apparently the USCG system only recognizes one application number per mariner number. As such, I can only view one application associated with my mariner number on the USCG application status website. Sadly, I cannot review my license application status online.

They also have glitches in their system related to emails I am receiving. I have received no less than 12 emails stating “Additional information is required to complete your professional evaluation. A letter detailing the information requested was mailed on ‘[XX]-Dec-2020’ from the NMC to your address of record. Please review this letter carefully. It contains all of the information you should need to allow us to continue the application process.” Through chats I have confirmed no letter has ever been sent and that no information is being requested from me.

Good luck with any application that is not straight forward.
