I never came across a Chief or a Second (1st Ass. Eng) that liked large V engines.
There were two of those on the Resolution Bay class container ships. They had upped the output somewhat by the last of the class.
They had a turbo at each end . 900mm bore 2.3 metre stroke max revs 125 rpm. Don’t ask me anything more technical.
Pielstick??
I hear they are not very poular with Engineers.
Yes. Especially when there are two squashed in a Ro-Ro with very little room.
Genius at work. He just needs to be careful when he rolls over at night, or there might be some shocking dreams afoot:

Anybody here who have actually been Stoker, or Fireman on a coal fired ship?
An anecdote:
An old Captain was awarded a medal for long service at sea, (incl. during two WWs)
He got an Audience with King Håkon VII of Norway (himself a Naval Officer) to receive the medal.
The King asked him;
- “What is the best that has happened in your many years at sea”?
The old Captain answered; "
- “When we got rid of those damned Stokers”.
- “Why was that such a happy occasion”?
- “That I can tell you Your Majesty; If they complained about anything and didn’t get it immediately, they just shoveled slower, until they did”.

Anybody here who have sailed with one of these?:
Caltex Calcutta engined by a five cylinder centre scavenge Doxford LB. My first single handed watchkeeping job on the 8-12. It was 1966 and I was still a Cadet. I thought it was wonderful.
More semi-diesels being refurbished and restarted.
First a single-cylinder semi-diesel, produced by Heimdal in 1964. It is a 35-45 hp with hydraulic steering where the hydraulic pump and centrifugal regulator are driven by gears on the crankshaft:
Not easy to get everything right, but these guys have the skills, knowledge and patience to do it.
Didn’t she have crew accommodation in the forecastle?
No, crew accommodation was the deck below the main deck. Crew bar was aft .
