If that’s the case then it’s neither big cam nor small cam, but rather no cam at all (MAN ME type engine).
Your first picture looks like a 6 cylinder engine whereas your linked article shows an 8 cylinder engine like what the Commitment Class has.
Anybody here with experience from this type of steam engines?:
