I took the tankerman DL course 4 years ago and got the tankerman assistant endorsement. Now I am trying to get the Tankerman engineer endorse and the CG says I have to take another course? Does this sound right? When I read the requirements it says within 5 years, but on the phone they told me the last course was for tankerman assistant and I would have to take it again to upgrade. I have been sailing tankers the last 3 years.<O:p</O:p
If the course you took was approved for Tankerman-PIC and was takenm in the past five years, you do not need to take another course.

Certificate came from California Maritime says tankerman assistant- dl familiarization in accordance with 46 cfr 13.409 and stcw code section A-V/1/2-7. I was told that when I got the tankerman assist that all I needed to do was show 90 days as an engineering officer on tankers within 5 years to get the tankerman engineer endorsement? I already have the Tankerman assist on my stcw.
Tankerman-assistant is the lowest level of tankerman endorsement. A course that is only approved for that will not suffice for tankerman-engineer or tankerman-PIC. Was this a course you took as a CMA cadet? If so, what is the course number (the college catalog number)?
I would have to go back and look that up. It was the certificate I recieved upon graduation at CMA in 2006
