What is the progression to be a DPO?
My understanding so far take basic class then 60 days on vessel with DP then take advanced class. But after advanced class whats next to be DPO?

Another 60 days after advanced class. It’s a significant reduction.
When I took it, 30 days after induction and then 180 days after advanced.
You then enter the next phase. There are tasks that will need to be signed off and another 60 DP days, a letter from the company and then you can pay the NI, submit everything on their website. it honestly is a huge pain so get someone to help if you can, it will help you do it correctly the first time and not have it kicked back.
Awesome thanks guys
No, 60 days on DP not just 60 days on the vessel.
Good catch and an important distinction.
A DP day is defined as 2 hours or more of actually being on DP, on a DP certified vessel.
Appreciate clarification. Someone told me on vessel. That sure changes things a bit. Depending on vessel then theres no telling how long 60 days on DP can take.
Or just do what probably 90% of people did, get the master to sign off regardless. If there is a simulator, some time can be logged that way.
Don’t know if most companies are this way (but they should be), but we have to submit a DP accumulation timesheet for the office to verify before they’ll issue a DP seatime letter for submission to NI.
The NI spot checks vessel logs to be sure companies are captains aren’t pencil whipping DP books. I’ve never met anyone that would risk their DP cert by signing off bullshit time.
Didnt realize all this was so serious. Obviously, I have not been around DP
Here again showing how much you don’t know.
Apparently you do not know how this forum works either. Look at who I was replying to.
Yep, the notification said to me so thought that was directed to me. Thats completely my bad and apologies to you.
Nah dick you already spouted off. Own it.
Dont forget the other problem of the dp class being dropped so no DP time or dp 2 back to dp1 due to maintenance issues.
In the GoM there are unclassed dp systems on vessels too.
You can take a DP reduction course to reduce time by a little bit, can’t remember how many days, 15? and it can only be used in one phase, not both. Also some DP days can carry over into the next phase, e.g, you get stuck on the boat working over and you’ve completed/got the time for the first phase but not taken the Advanced simulator course yet.
Some of the tasks can be completed in the DP simulation mode on your vessels DP system, but there is really no point because you’ll complete all of them doing regular DP setup and DP ops over the course of your time accumulation.
It’s been a minute since I worked through the scheme but I believe that is mostly accurate, perhaps someone with a book (my initial book is in storage somewhere) could clarify some things. All of that will be covered in your Induction course.
I believe it took me about 1 1/2 years from Induction to Unlimited, with about 3 months waiting on the NI application.
My vessel was on DP on average 15 days throughout a 28 day hitch, sometimes less or more.
Good luck!
Be sure to take advantage of passive DP days. They are only available for the first phase and it will help you accumulate the time much faster. You can also learn a lot when you’re sitting in port and have time to pick the brain of your watch partner.
Then things have changed. I never saw NI spot check logbooks prior to 2017. They basically took your word from your DP or IMCA logbook. Not saying my statement is good for the industry, but I am pretty sure a majority of DPOs i came across in my many years when I was Offshore had time wriiten off as on the vessel and watch, not necessarily on DP.
They check for class certificate and check your office for the charterer to check if it was a DP contract when they are suspicious.
