Pieter Schelte is... Nazi War Criminal?
Damn autocorrect changed USS to USA
no worries, we know what you meant but I disagree that my diplomatic skills as a naval commanding officer might have led to war between the USA and Great Britain for a third time in less than a century. I am a consummate naval diplomat in the tradition of that greatest one of all time…Capt. James T. (Tight Pants) Kirk!

With my incredibly massive phallus to disarm my opponents, the Confederacy and Great Britain wouldn’t stand a chance…handsdown, the CO with the biggest dick wins everytime!

and you can get those hands out your pants now sailor!

He also had the biggest green wrap-around fatshirt!

CHRIST MAN! I couldn’t get any of those lyrics at all although the girls were totally hot! Tell you what, I’ll give you one you can actually understand the words to:

don’t you just love a train wreck of a thread such as this? what fun to detonate a small charge under it!

Well Hi there people! You know me!
I used to run a little joint called Germany.
I was number 1, the people’s choice
And everybody listened to my mighty voice
My name is Adolph, I’m on the mic
I’m gonna hip ya to the story of the new 3rd reich
It all began down in Munich town
and pretty soon the word started gettin’ around.
So I said to Martin Borman, I said “Hey Marty! Why don’t we throw a little ‘nazi’ party?”
So we had an election, well kinda sorta,
And before you knew, hello! New order!
To all those mothah’s in the fatherland, I said “achtung baby, I got me a plan!”
They said, “whatcha got Adolph? Whatcha gunna do?”
I said, “How about this one: world war two”

Perhaps they could name it for one of the pioneers of NASSA?

definitely loses something in translation

was that video supposed to be funny?
was that video supposed to be funny?
Yep. Probably not for everybody.

They’ve renamed her “Pioneering Spirit”
They’ve renamed her “Pioneering Spirit”
Ugly name for a ugly ship.
They’ve renamed her “Pioneering Spirit”
Note that the initials remain P.S.

Clever

Of course, nobody yet has commented about the vessel itself…is this thing going to prove to be too damned big and expensive for the new reality of the offshore world? How much is a $1B+ vessel going to demand a day and will the operators gladly pay it? You know this vessel’s design is really not too useful for anything other than platform removals. Did Allseas spend a fortune building what might prove to be a huge black elephant? Should they have gone for something much more multipurpose?

Maybe it was a billion dollar PR ploy to get their name in the news after they named a boat after a Nazi war criminal. Now that they’ve so graciously renamed it and recooped their public image, John Q. Public knows just who to go to for all of his offshore petro-chemical industry needs, if he didn’t before. Mom and Pop’s offshore services experience will never be the same now that they know who Allseas is.

Poor J. Ray McD…they never stood a chance against those wily Dutch interlopers! Anyone know if they are still in business in the GoM and what they are doing now that the Amelia fab yard was all auctioned off?

An article I read about it in Popular Mechanics (or was it Pop Science) said the ship should have work for the next 20+ years at a minimum. Im sure they will make their money back.

The only charges I can find against Pieter Schelte are for joining an illegal organization … sort of like in the US in the 1950s and 60s when being a communist was a criminal offense. The Dutch were quite rightly pissed at him but I seem to see quite a bit of hypocrisy surrounding this whole affair.

Shell isn’t exactly lily white with regard to its own Nazi connections before the war either: http://royaldutchshellplc.com/2012/12/07/shell-and-the-dutch-fascists-a-study-in-black/

Look up the connection between Standard Oil and the Nazi government as well as Chase Bank’s if you want to find acts that are real war crimes.

There is enough stink to cover nearly every major player in those days …

no sale Steamer…he was not drafted into the German Wehrmacht but was a volunteer into the Waffen SS. Any no, there is not a comparison between being a member of the SS during WWII and being a member of the communist party in the US during the 50’s. The SS murdered millions but the US communists did not murder anyone and at the worst were a nuisance. Even the damage done by Julius and Ethel Rosenberg was shown later to not have cause grievous damage to the US. Was Gus Hall the same as an SS member? Speaking of being a member of a nuisance group in the US which garnered much loathing from the rulers, what are your feelings towards the hated IWW and Eugene Debs? Was he the same as an SS member? Didn’t think so…

the Ford Motor Company as well (Henry Ford was a Nazi at heart!)

sure when oil was over $100/bbl but it is half that and how much do you think the operators want to spend now on decommissioning and opposed to the opposite?

Old platforms have to be decommissioned independent of oil prices. Just in Norway alone it’s enough work to last this ship through the downturn.

yeah, but will the operators pay that huge money for the vessel formerly known as the Pieter Schelte when they can hire lower cost vessels to do the same work?
