Renaming Harvey Milk

Is this really what people care about? What an absolute joke and complete waste.

What was an ā€œabsolute jokeā€ was the reasons for the initial naming of that ship.

Wokeness needs to be cut off, killed and every trace of its existence expunged from the face of the planet.

I, for one, applaud this move and don’t care about any hurt feelings.

I might add that the purpose of a navy is to fight at sea, not advertise the diversity propensities of the woke, shiny-bum officials safely ensconced ashore.

ā€œThe John Lewis-class ships are traditionally named after civil rights leaders, with other vessels in the class including the USNS John Lewis , USNS Earl Warren , and USNS Robert F. Kennedyā€

Better go start sandblasting the name off the John Lewis too because (shhh) he was a black dude.

Or did you forget what the D in DEI means?

I prefer DEI dead and buried. So, it seems does Trump and Hegseth. Good on them.

Any ā€œtraditionā€ of such long standing as this is just a passing fad. Give it another century and it might become a habit. Tradition is something much more meaningful.

Better go rename the whole class then. Because there’s a whole lot of DEI on that list. Nevermind if they deserve it or not.

I suspect that will happen.

You think the Robert F Kennedy will stick around?

They just have to add Jnr. and the wokeness is expunged.

The ship was named in 2016, crazy Trump didn’t do anything about it until 10 years later. This is so dumb

Almost like renaming Fort Bragg back to Fort Bragg but just using a different Bragg…

Well at least one person cares…

We have a whole other post about taxes. Why waste money on this? What’s the point?

Sometimes one needs to reiterate ones’ white nationalist bona fides. Sometimes it’s by defending Putin, a hero to them all, sometimes other methods.

Could not have said it better myself.

I don’t believe in re-naming streets, schools, mountains, lakes, gulfs, or navy-ish ships. Somebody got to choose the name, named it after a decent person, and there you go. Let’s move on to something more important.

Yeah! Naming support ships after civil rights leaders because they embody the American spirit of continuously advancing the cause of Liberty and Justice For All? Sounds like some stupid woke garbage to me. We don’t need any of that nonsense in America.

They are. Per CBS, ā€œThe documents obtained by CBS News also show other vessels named after prominent leaders are also on the Navy’s renaming ā€˜recommended list.’ Among them are the USNS Thurgood Marshall, USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg, USNS Harriet Tubman, USNS Dolores Huerta, USNS Lucy Stone, USNS Cesar Chavez and USNS Medgar Evers.ā€ The last one is particularly insulting to me. People really think a WW2 Army Veteran who was martyred for daring to fight so his people could have equal rights as citizens and human beings, something deeply and inspirationally American, only got that honor because he was black and thus needs to have that removed?

I have to say, I was incredibly disappointed to see our fearless captain championing this on Twitter. Disappointed, but not surprised. Nothing says ā€œunion manā€ more than cheering on one of the most famous American labor organizers of the 20th Century having a high government honor stripped from his memory.

How much you want to bet this is where they restick all the Confederate Navy names? Get ready to see him announcing the USNS Semmes, USNS Maury, and USNS Waddell to ā€œcorrectā€ it.

Which part exactly, of diversity, equity and inclusion do you have a problem with?

To rub Dem noses in their own mistakes bringing dishonour to naval service.

It seems to be common enough.

It seems the problem is who decides who is a ā€˜decent person’.

I thoroughly agree.

But casting my eye down the list of names so far of that ship class it strikes me as probable there’s not a single Republican anywhere who believes in human rights … at least not a good enough person to be honoured in this way.

I also note Earl Warren, Supreme Court Justice, gets in there despite him producing the biggest pack of lies about the death of JFK in his eponymous Warren Commission. That’s now being corrected by the new administration by releasing much more of the files kept from the public to promulgate a fairy tale culprit (sadly and badly shot dead) who could take the entirety of the blame instead of the actual villains in three letter agencies in DC.

Research all of them and you Lefties will find much to laud and we on the sensible end of the spectrum, much to ridicule.

I was being sarcastic, genius.

That’s because a lot of the most prominent Republican civil rights leaders…already HAVE ships named after them! Grant! Roosevelt! Eisenhower! LINCOLN! All of them don’t just have replinishment oilers, they have major warships named after them. And as you noted, negatively I might add, there’s now Robert Smalls on that list too.

If you have other Republican civil rights leaders who deserve such an honor, feel free to suggest them. I’m sure there are plenty from the Civil War to the Civil Rights Era who were just overshadowed by popular history of the television era. Do you have any you’d care for?

Also, just saying, but Earl Warren was quite literally the Chairman of the California Republican Party, and he got his ship not for the Warren Report but for giving us a unanimous Brown vs Board of Education.
