Pay and trip lengths on SBX-1?

Anyone here aware of how much an AB can make aboard SBX-1 out in Honolulu and long one trip is for?

I believe it is always alongside at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor

Not trying to be rude, but my question was regarding pay and length of stint. I know its almost always moored at Ford Island.

then who the PHUCK knows?

but seriously does it really matter what the pay or rotation is? it is a job maintaining something which is alongside a dock in Hawaii! what more do you want for Christ’s sake?

.

Yet another wasteful govt boondoggle. A golf ball on a raft.

I thought it was a time machine. Go figure.

I know a guy who worked on that…70 days on/70 days off. Not sure what the pay was but I assume it was pretty good.

FWIW, SBX is AMO/SIU, crewed by TOTE. 70/70 is pretty standard for officers on TOTE ships.

Chouest was towing it a few years ago with the Dove. Dove returned to Louisiana. You say SBX is at Pearl? Job over?

Just for those who might not know what the SBX is I take the liberty of including a link to my newsletter of last July http://www.shipsandoil.co.uk/newsletter-introduction/july-2016 .

It’s AMO crewed she goes on little excursions here and there. She’s not a fast mover makes like 6-7kts

I just read an article that says the golf ball is heading towards 'Lil Kim’s domain to keep an eye on his missile launches.

Hopefully it doesn’t end up like the USS Pueblo.

BTW Did you know that the hull for the SBX-1 was built by a Russian Shipyard?: http://www.rigzone.com/news/oil_gas/a/3279/Vyborg_Shipyard_Delivers_CS50_Baredeck_Platform

It was converted at Keppel’s AmFELS yard in Brownsville and transported to Pearl Harbour on board HLV Blue Marlin in 2006:

The US Navy know how to save money by buying foreign equipment and services apparently.

BTW Obviously the time frame for this acquisition was expedited and they couldn’t wait for one to be built domestically.

The contract would have been handed to a US yard at quadruple the cost without batting an eye. The navy has no desire to save money and will throw all it can at a problem to solve it or make it go away.

GOOD LORD! they couldn’t figure out how to make it work out at sea before so how on earth are they going to make it work now? you simply cannot support the thing out in the open North Pacific Ocean during the winter and with the speed this thing moves at you cannot get it to a port to do crew changes, resupply, etc…

what was needed are a minimum of two ships, one which would be on station, and one in transit/port. This is how they used to operate weatherships in the days before satellites.

I do understand that a semisub can stay out there working in conditions that a conventional hull can’t but how do you park it out there in mid ocean in the winter and even manage to pump fuel into the thing?

besides, why can’t spy satellites spot these missiles being launched?

No fear … they will guard it with an LCS.

What has “working” got to do with it?

What’s one more piece of pork on top of the steaming pile.
