Hornbeck Offshore

Just applied for Hornbeck, which is offering deckhand/OS pay at $100-$115 day. Can anyone tell me if this is todays going rate of pay? Ive tried to research, but a lot of companies are not hinting to there pay scale.

Looks like wages in the gulf cratered.

I have applied to around 50 companies and only had 1 response from Andrie, but nobody else. I figure its the norm nowadays. I’ll just keep plugging away, but i am assuming wages have tanked everywhere.

“Holy shit!” is my immediate response.

Whatever SIU OS jobs that are out there have to pay more than that.

One of the positions i applied to was Chevron thru SUP as AB, but there was no pay listed that i saw. Only listed vacation, benefits, etc…Maybe i will get lucky.

They will pay you crap and they will treat you like crap. Be advised.

100$= 8.33 an hour. Sea time is sea time but I’d rather work a shore side job anywhere and make more than 8.33 an hour and be home.

I’m really trying to get some sea time and experience, and i figured that was just the going rate. They are paying ABs $170-180/day i believe. I only have my AB special/lifeboatman and STCW 95. Lots of competition out there

That treatment is not unique to Hornbeck. ALL the osv companies will treat you that way in a dowturn like this because they know they can get away with it. After all, where else ya gonna go?? When times are real good, you get real good treatment, & vice versa.

If you want sea time and a job, take the offer and run with it. If this industry is what your long term goals are, I would strongly consider thinking about the future. If you can make that wage work with your bills and such then suck it up buttercup. Offshore in the GOM is cyclical and the cycle will come back around in your favor if you’re in the right place at the right time. I think the day rate sucks but fuck it, give it a whirl and see what happens.

Is HOS actually hiring though? Or just mining resumes?

We’ve got a few new hires on my boat and I’ve seen a few more orange hard hats walking around HOS Port. People are quiting left and right so they will have to hire if they plan to keep the boats that aren’t stacked crewed up.

I found a lot of positions they are advertising for on indeed.com, engineering/deck/wheelhouse positions. I’ve tried to call them several times, and i get passed to HR , but no one answers or returns messages.

Hahaha they think there’s no where to go, yet the hundreds who have willingly quit have proved that myth wrong! People have left, found even time jobs and are making more money than they were making at 28 and 14

Yup, i can second that. Better pay, benefits, and more time off. That being said, if you have a job offer on the table, you may want to grab it. It’s odd, but I’ve always found it easier to get job offers once you’re already working.

Ive heard that from a lot of people in the industry. But i couldnt buy a job offer if i had a million dollars. Im sure half the jobs listed are companies mining resumes.

That recent barrage of job postings said the start date for the positions was 11/1/2016 if I recall. I didn’t look at the os ad though.

Question is, how many have done that recently? Maybe a year ago I’d say some got out when the gettin’ was good. Nowadays it’s flat out brutal.

People are still flying out of there. I’m hearing as high as 15 a week.

Where are they going? Are they staying in the industry?
Just curious, because it’s really tough getting into the other markets right now. I have a friend with a MOT and lots of verifiable towing experience and he’s having a hard time.

No idea, but I can’t imagine they would give up a job in hopes of something opening up down the road.
