$825 is good money. I don’t think you can do better than that as a Jr DPO! I am sure you would as a Chief Mate, Master, or Sr DPO.
That’s what I’m gathering but again the potential of becoming SDPO, Chief Mate, Master is what’s appealing.
Oh I understand and I wish you the best! I guess a pay cut for a short term is worth the money and upgrade in the future.
I all honesty, as much as any of us might loathe Fooshon, there is a proessional satisfaction to bringing a vessel in and out of there and taking it into some of those rather tight docks. I have said it before that I tip my hat the all those capn’s who take those really big anchor handlers, subsea and now increasing large OSVs into Halliburton Slip or the other small holes, top them around and park them into a space maybe 20’ longer than their own boat.
I’ve been driving around Fourchon for over 30 years and I can honestly say that it really sucks nowadays.
But forget it…didn’t mean to get your panties in a bunch…u need to find something else to bide your time. Think you be on here to often…
Oh my goodness…I’ve perturbed somebody again! How am I ever going to stop doing that? I’ve been a BADDD BOYYY!
btw, if you did read the previous posts why are you asking questions as if you know nothing and want all the info just given to you?
hmmm?
Lets say average: Not bottom or top:
Jr DPO (or just DPO): GOM: 120K a year. Overseas: 154K a year
SrDPO: GOM: 135-145K a year. Overseas: 176K+ a year (could be up to 210 or 225K, depending on area and benefits)
I make $825/daily… No benefits to really speak of… Just curious how much to expect as DPO and then SDPO…also, typical length of time between positions…thks
As a DP Consultant I made $1250 a day.
The highest I ever heard of a SrDPO was with a company called FPSOcean. They were offering me between $1400-$1800 per day (depending on experience), this was in 2008. They went under, but the money is out there.
Dp consultant?
Dp consultant?
Consulting on newbuilds on a project team.

I made the jump four years ago. I do miss some of the satisfaction from working on the boats, but I do not regret the move for one minute. The pay, benefits, training, schedule, travel, food, laundry…pretty much everything is better. I worked at Chouest for 10 years and never saw myself leaving. It just happened. Sometimes you just out grow a company. It happens all the time. You are absolutely correct…You are gone away from home and family…so you might as well be compensated as much as you can. $825 is good, but just like Anchorman, I did not come to the rigs to sit behind a DP screen. There are so many different systems and departments on board a drilling rig. Life outside of the bridge is what I call it. The opportunity is there and being from the OSV’s will definitely benefit you down the road. There is so much action heading to the Gulf, you will surely find a spot somewhere.
Ccapt., how long have you had your DP ticket? Just trying to figure out what the qualifications look like for the “big leagues”
Did you have a lot of DP experience on large OSV’s?
Do you miss the transmitting in and out of ports and boat handling you had at Chouest?
Yes, not necessarily that port, but certainly the boat handling. After 21 years, I think I got it down pretty good to where I cannot lose it. Now, I’m running like a man with his ass on fire…on deck 90% of the time and love it. Of course, it was easier when I was in my 20’s (the first time around) and not a few months from being 40 years old. Luckily, I got on as C/M with a good vessel management team and earned a recommendation for a Master position through hard work…so, it just a matter of time before duplicating my success I had at Chouest.

Did you really say laundry?..the way these threads of desperate souls have gone lately, I don’t think I would be out of line by asking someone here on gCaptain to wash my socks. Might as well. Maybe the next crystal ball question will get a reply “if you wash my socks” - and I’ll just say what they want to hear.

I think he had about 20,000 hours of DP console time when he left. It takes about 10 years to get that much true documented time, and that is on a 2 for 1 schedule - without doing the math.
That’s a lot of desktop time!

So, should congratulations on the Sharav be pre-mature?
Since we are on the subject…What IS the IDEAL ROUTE to be “properly” trained for the big leagues??

I’m working on my Portuguese; I already know English pretty good. I’ve been doing some reading lately too.
