This happened in the U.S. Virgin Islands:

The Caneel Bay Resort ferry Mary II ran over a dinghy as it approached Cruz Bay early Friday morning. V.I. National Park Superintendent Mark Hardgrove said the boat was still on a “plane,” meaning that it was traveling at a high rate of speed, when it hit the dinghy. He put the time at around 6 a.m.He said the dinghy occupant suffered a broken arm and ribs.“He was transported to the hospital,” Hardgrove said.Hardgrove said the Caneel Bay ferry had to tow the dinghy to the beach with the occupant in it because the ferry crew could not get to him while he was in the dinghy.Caneel Bay Resort manager Nikolay Hotze said the passengers on board the ferry and the boat were all fine.“It’s under investigation. We’re trying to reconstruct what happened,” he said.Further information was not available from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Police Department.

If they couldn’t get to him while he was in the dingy, how do they get to someone who fell overboard? There must be more to this story.

Oh I am sure there is.
