Good grief! I never thought I would live long enough to read a statement like that! It says a lot when the best company to sail with becomes a “non entity” … truly sad.
Was onboard the President Grant when we lost ( IIRC) 16 boxes in that same area.
What was really interesting is they “jumped” off the deck and over the side without touching the rail.
I can only tell You Dr.Bugge for sure that the stack collapses will occur from time to time in the forseable future but it would be like a dissertation and I am sure You will have neither interest nor patience to read as it covers ca 35 years of sailing on cont. vessels from 145 mtrs to 330 loa.
Of course find me a route with no rolling and pitching and stay asurred that long lashing bars can remain in lashing bins for the duration of the voyage. But just in case I would insist on having t’locs locked if oows decided to make more robust course changes causing the vsl to heel slightly.
I have used i think 4 programs assisting in weather & voyage planning with or without weather routing assistance .Mostly Bon Voyage and Maersk Spos. Below is the instruction manual for Bon Voyage. I used older versions but more or less these programs are all very similar.
https://www.datocms-assets.com/119923/1713514323-stormgeo-bvs-8-5-user-guide.pdf
The key takeaways from thiese manuals are here:
They are not sollutions to avoid heavy weather /conditions but provide assistance /aid - frequent users familiar with all the features find them quite usefull especially with shore assistance of weather routing.
" The Bon Voyage System (BVS) assists by predicting the potential for
severe motions by means of a tool for avoiding roll resonance and
wave impact. "
" Unfortunately, the IMO is not suggesting any threshold for Parametric Roll and Synchronous Roll. The physical model is
only taking into account the roll period and the encountering period. "
" **It is up to the Master to define the wave height when parametric or synchronous roll becomes a concern for him. All thresholds are based on the Master’s experience! "
" The concept of the MARGINAL RISK ensures that there is not just a simple yes/no decision. It provides a reasonable safety margin below the wave thresholds. "
.
The enthusiasts claiming this is a sollution should be asked if they know what data input is delivered into the system . According to IT experts “garbage in = garbage out” . So it is as good as data provided.
I have used only one , what can be called solution , what was an experimental tool which was fed with all ships data , calculated stability + actual rolling period and an option to put GM from inclining experiment what is the closest thing to reality as far as GM is concerned. Also the system required longitudinal GM but this was calculated by the system.
As a cherry on top there was a small radar antena scanning left to right and back on the forward mast measuring wave parameters. So it delivered data not from some analyses or forcasts ( analyses is 3 hrs old) but a real time input.
All this data resulted on the stand alone screen showing two big TITS left tit and right tit polar presentation. The idea was to have your ship vector right smack between the tits what was quite i must say attractive and eye rivetting solution. Mates loved it while I stuck to my old fashioned methods to stay in shape if this cool small antena disappeared after encounter with some sneaky rogue wave.
This little bit was only about the use of smart ass systems.
Now there is a homework for You Dr.Bugge. You are in command of VLCV that ended it’s ocean leg arriving at RTM. Her stability , torsions, BMs, SFs, drafts F& A are effing perfection - or using more civilised expression as per book/regs/bible , You are so proud of her condition and your chmate is even prouder having full erection admiring his loading genius.
8 to 9 tiers fm fwd to aft flushed .
Your GM is very " comfortable " and RTM is the first port of your coastal leg: BRH/HAM, FXT, LHR just 4 .
Question
- Do You know what "comfortable " means??? - can You give me your best idea. ?
2.. What do you think has happened to your perfect arrival condition on dep. RTM especially to your GM.
Wish You a very pleasant weekend.
Cheers

Zero interest.
That is what I thought.
