Contracts drive demand, tighten vessel supply

Offshore oil and gas developments in Latin America, west Africa, Gulf of Mexico, northern Europe and in southeast Asia are driving demand for subsea construction and diving support vessels, he explained.

Shipowners can increase their charter rates with growing confidence in achieving high utilisation rates in a rising market because of the limited number of newbuildings currently on order. Mr McIntosh said there are no disruptive players emerging, nor any new private equity-backed contractors trying to enter the market, which is highly consolidated and tightly controlled. “The market is rapidly tightening and there are heightened rates and expectations for owners and contractors,” he said. “It is a unique cycle. The market is really heating up.”

DOF Group has entered into an agreement to acquire Maersk Supply Service

The DOF Group will, following the acquisition of MSS, comprise a workforce of more than 5,400 employees with 78 modern offshore/subsea vessels, 65 of which are owned, and engineering capacity to service both the offshore and subsea market.

In consideration for the shares in MSS and subject to closing of the transaction, A.P. Moller Holding’s subsidiary MSSH shall at completion of the transaction receive a combination of USD 577 million in cash (to be adjusted based on the locked-box accounts and subject to further adjustments at closing) and 58,883,073 new shares in DOF, leading MSSH to hold 25% of the share capital in DOF after issuance of the consideration shares.

Icon Offshore to add 40 ships in deals with Yinson and Liannex - Splash247

Under the contract terms, PaxOcean 10 MPSVs will have 5,000 dwt capacity, DP2 dynamic positioning, and other the latest advancements in offshore vessel technology.

The vessels will be built at PaxOcean’s yard in Zhoushan, China, with deliveries scheduled from the third quarter of 2026 onwards.

Maersk Supply Service orders newbuild for Cenovus' Canadian oilfield - Splash247

The 110m long vessel, based on the MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting hull design, will be a DP3, ice-classed ship with the ability to hold 164 people on board, and will have a walk-to-work gangway.
It will also have two 1MWh battery packs on board and several generator sets for power, positioning and propulsion driving three azimuth thrusters, and a tunnel thruster. The vessel will also be capable of burning biofuel or a biofuel blend.
The vessel will provide infield and logistics services including down-staffing and crew changes, drilling support, field safety and standby, emergency towing, and ice management.

OSV rates have been incredibly firm throughout 2024. The OSV rate index managed by Clarksons Research is currently sitting at all-time highs beating out the previous peak recorded in late 2008.
“OSV demand is up 2% y-o-y, or 30% since the 2020 low (75% utilisation). Given the small orderbook and difficulty of reactivating lay-ups, dayrates look set to remain supported,” Clarksons noted in a recent offshore markets update.

New build at Green Yard Kleven — Green Yard

The ship will operate for an unmanned gas platform in the Black Sea, part of the production infrastructure of Neptun Deep project, by being a base for technicians for maintenance on the platform, “on board warehouse”, carrying out lighter IMR missions in the field and transporting people and supplies. It will be an 89.5-meter-long multihull vessel, with W2W (Walk to Work) walkway, offshore crane, and furnishings for a total of 90 people in single cabins. The hull will be built by subcontractor Montex in Poland and is expected to Ulsteinvik at the start of 2026.

The ship is tailored to operate a fixed-bottom platform on a large and important offshore gas field on the Romanian continental shelf. With its innovative design and technology, this vessel represents a new era in offshore logistics. All technicians and administrative personnel for the platform must live on the ship and not on the platform.

The design has an azimuth propeller in each corner with a large distance, - also across the ship, which is energy-saving in the next step. “QUATTROPROP” is Marin Teknikk’s name for this system.
The hull construction is also designed so that all 4 propellers together will provide a high towing force.
The ship must be able to be continuously connected to the rig with a walkway so that if a critical situation arises, personnel on the rig must be able to be immediately evacuated to the ship via the walkway.

On Wednesday, it became known that investor and offshore investor Kristian Siem is transferring the nine offshore vessels that he is taking with him after the exit from Sea1 Offshore, formerly Siem Offshore, to also Kristiansand-based Aurora Offshore.

Siem states that he will own 40 percent of Aurora Offshore, like the London-based investment company Borealis Maritime, while the rest is owned by the management.

• We will then be on an equal footing with the current main owner, says Siem.

Aurora Offshore AS, which in turn owns the operating company Aurora Offshore Management AS, was 75 percent owned by Borealis at the turn of the year, according to proff.no .
