Hello everyone. I am a veteran able seaman unlimited who recently went through a 100ton master just to get a a captain under my belt. I also applied to test out for a 1600 mate. After endless seatime documents and other hoops I was informed today that my 100ton and oicnw are in the mail. My question is this… what tonnage license is this new oicnw good until? I’m wanting to upgrade my tonnage but wish to do as little as possible to upgrade stcw classes. I am aware that advanced firefighting and some other classes are required but I’m trying to find the path of least financial resistance. Any help?
Is english your first language? Because that doesnt make sence. In fact the first sentence could be easily missunderstood.
Curry it is sense not sence. Before you go off on grammar check your spelling and the use of antonyms.

It’s like being on the short bus and called ‘retard’ by the guy sitting next to you.
Curry thanks for the very deep and informed reply. If your statement is based on my use of the word veteran… I suggest you read the definition. My mother is an English teacher. Also I speak 4 languages and English was my first… thank you. Really? I ask a mariner related question and this is the information? Maybe next time I will go to an English forum for info about the uscg.

May I use that comment?? LOL
I’m going to use it on the Fishing Fourm I visit all the time.
Oicnw applies to your license. Although I am at a loss as to why you got that. AFAIK, STCW does NOT apply to under 100 tons. And you say you haven’t tested for 1600 yet!? I could see you getting a RFPNW but the OICNW is a little whack. Any more info?
I called to try to clear my confusion. I have had the rfpnw for years. The woman said she didn’t know why the previous woman had said oicnw was sent.! It was actually a change to my basic safety training. Why would my stcw change cause I went from AB unlimited to 100 master? These people seem pleasant enough but wow! Do they have any idea how confusing they are?
