Hello All.
Can someone answer a question for me: What does it take to obtain a USCG 100ton, 500 ton ticket for someone who is not of US citizenship? Can anyone who does not hold US citizenship or green card status obtain a license of such?
Any info greatly appreciated.

No, you must have be a US citizen to obtain a USCG license. Green card gets you nothing.

A green card holder can obtain a MMC and sail unlicensed or get an OUPV restricted to <5 tons.
Yeah…so it looks like you have to be a US citizen to get such license. How is it that a few people of a certain nationality obtain a 100ton and 500 ton ticket? They have no US citizenship.
I have never known of any who have.
And what certain nationality are you referring to?

These are Bermudan nationals with a USCG credential? They are British subjects. Hard to believe they’d have a valid credential. Could be fake.
If you are in a position to check the credential go here to verify: https://homeport.uscg.mil/mycg/portal/ep/channelView.do?channelId=-35921&channelPage=%2Fep%2Fmmld%2FMMCVSearchBody.jsp&pageTypeId=13489
Yes very hard to believe indeed. I actually know how they were able to obtain such. (illegally and fraud I might add).
People like me work so hard to obtain a Mariner ticket via MCA and to see this happen just makes me sick. I also underwent a course at chapman school in my late teens years to obtain a 100ton ticket but was unable because of citizenship.
Thanks for the link Captaint76 and Catheder. I will do some looking into this.
Have you talked to anyone at your own port state authority about this? Don’t they inspect credentials?
Anyway, good luck and be careful.
I would look into with my own port state, however we have no USCG representation here in Bermuda. Our port state deals with merchant mariner only where shipping is concerned.
What should I be careful of?

Strangers bearing gifts.
You are absolutely correct. Thanks for the heads up.
