That’s great…I would like to read the whole release. Context may or may not be important. We all know the publications we’re talking would NEEEEVER take something out of context for the purpose of political slant right?
You know that’s not true (not even sure why I’m replying to this). Not all the voters and states he won last time are guaranteed to vote that way again.
If this virus recovery/economic comeback don’t go well and then on top of that, he did shady shit with the recovery money, there’s no way he wins.
Well… If Biden is the other choice, then maybe… But that’s a whole other topic
Everyone must judge these things for themselves. It has been my experience that if you read enough of it (practice) one can separate out the facts from any slant. That requires more work with TV (passive learning) IMO.
Here:
The White House signing statement said the administration will not allow the inspector general to inform Congress without “presidential supervision,” calling it a violation of executive branch authority.
“I do not understand, and my Administration will not treat, this provision as permitting the [inspector general] to issue reports to the Congress without the presidential supervision required by the Take Care Clause, Article II, section 3,” the White House statement said.
The signing statement, which carried Trump’s signature, was written by the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, according to a Justice Department official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to freely discuss internal deliberations. The statement reflects a long-standing view among conservative lawyers of the reach of executive power and the limits of congressional authority, but is also based in part on an argument made in 1977 by the Carter administration that the president has control over information given to Congress by the executive branch, the official said."
Thx for the cut/paste. Sounds like a long standing point of contention about where the line is between presidential and Congressional powers. I ask again why the Congressional lawyers didn’t account for this.
To his credit, he didn’t try to hide it. When a reporter asked who would be the oversight, he straight up said “I’ll be the oversight”…I guess he meant it
It IS something that lawyers like to argue about. Here’s the difference though:
-
the administration is copping attitude at the time of the signing.
-
the provisions were put into a SPENDING BILL (special animal), specifically for this purpose. Limited to spending. It’s not the administration’s money to do with as they please.
-
Presumption of Constitutionality. The bill is law until a court says otherwise.
-
CT Analysis: they are trying to pull a fast one.
Fair enough. We’ll see how it plays out
You take exception to that statement?!?! His election strategy is to hold on to the votes he got in 2016, and do whatever he can to Swift Boat the opposition. Why hold all his rallies? The time he spends on them does nothing to help the American people. They are simply to keep his base energized, in those states that could deliver another electoral win.
If he builds his Wall with it his supporters will be delighted, and say that was the plan all along. His supporters bend reality in the space of 3 or 4 Orwells.
(“Orwells” being the term I’ve coined for the speed with which a committed MAGAer can believe up is down, and left is right, according to what Fox News and BBN tells them. Example: “COVID19 is a hoax" to “COVID19 was created by the Chinese and the Demonrats”=3 Orwells.)
You act like states such as Florida, Michigan, and Pennsylvania (and others) are locked in to repeat for Trump… reallocation of emergency funds for a wall while the DOW tanks will NOT play well. He has to know that
I won’t be waiting to find out. And you are making way too big a deal out of “Game, set match.” I was just cleaning my gun when it went off. I have no idea why that guy ran in front of it
What do you mean? What action are you going to take in lieu of waiting to see how it plays out?
Action?? I think it’s a foregone conclusion what will happen.
Ok… So, go on the record with your prediction
Nothing is locked in. But what, are you saying his strategy is to win over the hearts and minds of his detractors? The people he refers to as “traitors”? We know that’s not true.
The problem with being an electoral college president is that you never had the mandate of the majority. Therefore, you must protect your voting block at all costs, and give the slice of independent voters as much good stuff as you can–cut taxes, drive up the stock market by getting rid of banking regulations, start a popular war–before the next election comes.
Predictions? About what? The money? The election? You know, human beings are terrible at these sorts of things. Pundits are always doing it without accountability. I’ll match you though. Me first.
- Florida flips blue.
Nooooo… For about the 10th time, it’s all about the voters/states in the political middle… The swing States. NY? CA? Forget about it. That’s why I mentioned those states he surprisingly/barely won last time
You guys are at cross purposes. @Hawespiper is talking about what Trump needs, while @freighterman1 is talking about what Trump’s been doing.
No we’re both talking about what he’s going to do (reallocate to build a wall or not)
Dude… You’re killing me… Focus… Let’s recap:
We’re taking about Trump “pulling a fast one”. I said let’s wait to see how it plays out. You say you’re not gonna wait. Confused to what you mean, I ask for clarification. You say ‘action? I know what’s going to happen’. So I ask you to tell us what’s you are taking about.
Is this the other definition of rhetoric? (Quoting Oxford):
language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect on its audience, but often regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content.
You just like to argue pointlessly. Even argue about what you’re arguing about. @freighterman1 has you chasing your tail and you don’t even see it.
Trump will use the money to line his own pockets, those of his friends, or otherwise attempt to buy influence. It will be in some way for his own benefit , and not for the benefit of the country.
How can I not see it? You’re doing the same thing and I just called you out on it.
Just hilarious… You gloat about getting someone to chase their tail then complain that that person likes to argue endlessly. The absolute embodiment of the caricature of the stereotype of the liberal left.
