Was taking a DP class and the Captain teaching it was talking about some new cfr’s that should be coming out soon. He said they were supposed to mainly be a lot DP vessels and that two DPO’s were going to be required to be on watch at all times besides the master, so a ship would need a total of 5 DPO’s on board. How do y’all see this affecting an already down oil market and companies have to pay for another mate?
The Coast Guard has shown they were not interested in DP, those standards are driven by the big oil companies and their insurance providers. My company already requires 4 Mate/DPOs on our IMR boats and 3 Mates/DPOs and a Master on our OSVs.
Maybe he was referring to the proposed rules from 5 years ago. See https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=USCG-2014-0063 . They don’t appear to be going anywhere.
