That a new tartan receive it’s approved may not be a great novelty, but that it is granted and gifted to an entity outside Scotland is not an everyday event:

Greenland is to be presented with its own tartan as a cross-party group of MPs is set to visit Nuuk.
As part of their trip, the chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Greenland (APPG), SNP MP Brendan O’Hara, will present the Greenlandic Parliament and government with a Greenland tartan this week.
The first Greenland tartan was created by the Great Scot Ltd from Keith in Moray.
It is officially lodged and now recognised with Scottish Registry of Tartans.
The tartan comprises the red and white of the Greenland flag, as well as pink, which is the colour of the country’s national flower, the Dwarf Fireweed.
Mr O’Hara said: “When I established this APPG in 2019, I could never have imagined that in just a few short years, Greenland would become the hottest topic in international affairs.
