New SAR vessels


The Romanian maritime search and rescue (SAR) organisation ARSVOM is modernizing its fleet with several newbuildings from Estonian shipyard Baltic Workboats. May 11th two brand new units passed Kiel on their long delivery voyage to Constanta, the 22m ARES (top) and the 19m PHOENIX (below). Their route will take them upstream the Rhine and Main rivers, then along the Main-Danube canal, and finally downstream the Danube river to the Black Sea:

Two new state-of-the-art response vessels designed by Incat Crowther are now in operation for the Port Authority of NSW. The vessels, named BURRA and GIRAWAA, are designed to play a pivotal role in major on-water incidents, including firefighting operations both on and from the water. BURRA and GIRAWAA have the ability to pump 16,000 litres of sea water per minute - equivalent to the capacity of four large fire engines.Capable of travelling in shallow water, the vessels can travel at speeds of up to 27 knots and have the ability to turn 365 degrees in 60 metres, while travelling at 20 knots.
