I was hoping all I would have to carry around was the new MMC- but I noticed that the expiration date for my Radar Observer is not included, so I guess I need to carry that certificate around now! I was hoping I was done carrying my paper license etc. on the planes, trains & automobiles, never mind the boats! It is truly a shame that everything couldn’t be simplified somewhat. The MMC could include your TWIC, Passport, etc. The less stuff you have to carry around, the better! Sorry, just venting a little.
i would like it to include everything merchant marine related. mmd/mml/twic/stcw. the whole nine. if its part of your package, it should be in the book. its cant be a truly comprehensive credential until its all in one package.
im not on board with the passport though. i cant quite place why i have a gut feeling against it, i just do. everything else i agree with 100%.
Go to the post office and buy a wallet they are made to put your passport into and will hold every thing else to been using one for years works great
Radar exp should be on there I would look to see if its a misstake radar cert is good but not on your license no good

They quit puting the expiration of the RADAR on Licenses about a year or more ago; reason was the dates of License expiration (now endorsement expiration) and RADAR Cert expiration don’t always jive. At the time of the change they said one must carry their RADAR Cert or be able to fetch it within 48 hours for an inspection.
That sucks I guess that I will have to deal with that when I get my renewal in three more years I too was happy that they were putting it all in one little book
Well I guess that if they need it the officw could fax them a copy or maybe the schools could start to give you a big one for the wall and a small one laminated for the new book
don’t plan on rolling over for this one…plan on carrying only the “new” MMC…after all wasn’t that the reasoning for “consolidating” the documents in the first place…fiqure if the radar date was all that important to the USCG they would have included it on the “new” MMC…if MSO needs it that bad figure they can get it from NMC!
Just and idea here…Why can’t instead of your all your MMC licenses and endorcements being on big pieces of paper (old way) or passport book (new way) they could just be on a credit card just like the TWIC card. Have a micro chip in the card with your info on it. It could be scanned just like a credit card with a protable reader (CG bording team?). All your info would be accessed through a computer/portable laptop and updated as you got the endorcements. If you lost your lic. or it expired the computer would show that too. If a company wanted to check your status for employment reasons. They could type in your MMC number on a USCG website and it would give them an up to date picture of all your endorcements. They could also print out a hard copy of all this info for there records if needed. This card and your TWIC card info could be combined all in one card, no need for two cards. In short here, all you would have to carry around is one small credit card size identity card with everything on it. I know this will NEVER happen because it makes to much sense and would be too easy.
why not go a short step farther with a “barcode tattoo” and an “inbedded data/gps chip”…that way “big brother” would always be “in touch”?
There is a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip in the TWIC card.
All new US Government employees are currently being issued a similar card called the PIV card. Government regulations require all PIV cards to be issued with a government approved radio frequency shielding badge holder or Secure Sleeve for ID and payment cards. No such requirement is in place for the TWIC even though it contains the same type of information as the PIV card. It is up to the worker to obtain their own privacy protecting shielded badge holder.
I don’t think I am worried about big brother, as much as some weasel hacker, I would recommend getting the protective “sleeve” I can’t imagine all the trouble any of you would have if someone preyed on your personal info while your offshore and don’t even know it.
Some companies are purchasing “readers” for the TWIC cards, but TSA hasn’t decided what to use yet ? Guess I’ll follow up.

All of the required info that TSA took from us is vulnerable too…Imagine getting hacked because of your TWIC card ?
that would just be icing on the cake, wouldn’t it?

I agree with the hacker issue, it’s been done to the new passports with very little equipment - why couldn’t the new “little red book” have a TWIC card sleeve in the back with shielding…
MTSKIER
call me paranoid…just purchased a “shielded” wallet for my passport, MMC, TWIC and another one for my credit cards…a few years back my 84yo father’s personal imformation was stolen and it took right at 2 years to straighten that mess out!!
