All that they carried...?

Hi Folks,
Curious what documents that you are carrying these days. I have been carrying my binder with all of my certificates as well as my new license “credential”, oh and of course my twic card. Has anyone had any issues with not carrying all the Cert’s and FCC license? Trying to lighten the carry on load!
All the best,
MTSKIER
Off to the GOM today, Panama City, FL

I carry my MMC, TWIC, GMDSS license, and Radar Cert.

Just went thru ABS Intermediate audit & recent COI - They were happy with just the MMC, as long as it had all the required endorsements on it. If you are a DPO you should carry your DP cert as well.

I took VSo last October and sent in the paperwork for an endorsement to my STCW letter. I got a new MMC which expires in 2012 along with my license. I’m still carrying my license just in case. I also found out that my GMDSS Radio Operator certificate which has an expiration date of 2010 is now good for life. The endorsements are on the new MMC.

I carry everything. It’s just paper. Considering that I brought a set of Murphy books around my entire career - I lightened the load a long time ago. I don’t know why I do, but it’s so second nature that it really doesn’t matter. I have a nice laptop case - roll on / carry on - that has a file folder space that I use for credentials and certificates , along with a compartment for one set of clothes if my luggage gets lost. You have to carry your FCC GMDSS anyway, in a folder of some sort - I just happen to have enough room in that same folder for all my certificates. I got really stupid one day and scanned them all to .pdf. So, I have them on an idisk server with an Apple account. I link that entire folder on my CV for employers to see at anytime. I have a habit of doing too much at times.

You still carry Lee’s papers too, just in case?
You still carry Lee’s papers too, just in case?
I stopped carrying paper for him when he started wearing Tena.

He couldn’t defend himself anyway - like a turtle born with no shell.

If that was Lee, there would be a smaller package.

So happy I was able to amuse you two, even in my absence. Been busy looking for tar balls in Destin Bay. I just hope the guy from CNN comes back, because the next tar ball he picks up may be my buddy Tony’s poo he left on crab island last Saturday. The water was nice, but the booms were out. Not many fish or crabs. I hope we escape the worst of it, but I don’t see how.

BTW I carry all my documents all the time. Never know when you may need them. It is also a good idea to have a scanned copy of all certs and documents ready to e-mail or as proof of completion. It would be hard for anchorman to carry my papers along with his ego and swollen head. Might pull a muscle.

I knew you would come out of the tequila bottle sooner or later. Passed within a few miles of the Western Sirius yesterday - noticed the draft was light - and that gave me the clue you must have not been there. I will take carrying your papers over your coveralls any day without danger of pulling any muscles.

Maybe my photo was accurate the first time, are you sure you would want CNN to see you on the beach again.

you only have to show proof of licensure when asked by a boarding officer. if after a boarding or post accident, you have 30 days to show compliance with relevant recency, and regulatory paperwork.

recall that on an inspected vessel your licence MUST be displayed for the passengers to see. There is NOTHING about all the accompanying BS paperwork being required aboard.

HOWEVER; for an independent audit by a vetter you may indeed have to show all the paperwork at any time. It would depend on what type vessel you operate, and who is your customer (do they do vettings?) or does your company give you notice of vettings, so you can bring in the whole shebang when needed?
