President

The Board invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of President.

The President reports directly to the Maine Maritime Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will have a sincere appreciation for the college’s rich maritime heritage, history and traditions and be responsible for effective leadership, have impeccable integrity, strategic vision, and exemplary communication and interpersonal skills. He or she will have a demonstrated record in successful fund raising; significant leadership experience in an educational, maritime, business and/or governmental organization; outstanding fiscal skills; and, a commitment to the support and success of a nationally ranked public college. Individuals with significant management and leadership skills and an advanced degree from an accredited institution will be given preference.

THE MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY BOARD OF TRUSTEES IS SEEKING AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS THE FOLLOWING TRAITS AND QUALITIES:

-can passionately promote the mission, vision, identity, and values of Maine Maritime Academy

-leadership style that is inclusive, that listens, that values opinions

-understands and has a passion for the unique mission of a maritime college

-strong track record of leading and building consensus amongst diverse groups of people

-demonstrated record of successful fundraising

-understands how to work with a large volunteer Board, both as an administrator and an advisor

-understands and can work with the political process at the local, state and federal levels

-understands and is committed to the furtherance of post secondary educational goals and objectives for Maine high school graduates

-possesses administrative and fiscal skills necessary for successfully leading a public college

-is willing and able to keep the Board involved and informed regarding all internal and external constituencies

-understands the inherent value of a strong and supportive alumni

-strategic thinker with a strong management track record

Credentials:

-advanced degree preferred

-significant administrative experience with a college, maritime, business and/or governmental organization is required

-high level of credibility with academic stakeholders, either through a career developed within higher education, or the highest levels of achievement within another sector is preferred
