Yeah, they do the same thing when the EPFs dock there during fleet week for the ramp
No one said she was beautiful, but for the record in order to build new ships they had to meet the NMSV requirements. So if it’s a not-so-pretty new ship, or a museum piece, I think we know what we’d all choose…. TSES XII, I can’t wait to sniff your tanks!
You might be waiting a while. This is TSES VII. (No wonder the Roman empire had only a brief run, no one understands their damn numbers.)
Must be all the sniffing he does.
I’d choose the museum piece to learn on, at least for engineers.
Ughhh, I deserved that.
On a serious note? She must have some auxiliary steam system, right? That’s what made us graduates so desirable to the power plants and hospitals. Wouldn’t you need a steam plant of at least a certain size to issue Engineer’s licenses for steam vessels?
They have a new steam simulator (live boiler) on campus. I think that is where they will get steam training. Not sure that will be as attractive to ConEd and hospitals, but it’s still more than other non-maritime engineering graduates.
The auxiliary boiler systems on a modern (meaning built in last 30 years) ship is likely to to have more in common with the boiler systems a SUNY graduate will see in hospitals/buildings than the old museum piece turned razor blades.
For the grads that end up in power plants on shore, lack of a few summer cruises on an obsolete steam ship isn’t going to hinder their skill set.
Yes, but how often do you think about the Roman Empire?
At least once a year in February when I’m trying to figure out what Super Bowl it is.
Do engineers at any of the academies still graduate with steam licenses?
Yes. Mass, Maine and NY all had steam ships until this year.
They all do.
Maine has had a motor training ship since 1997.
That thing was a motor ship? Sheesh. Could’ve sworn she was a 60 year old steam ship.
I want to say that Cal Maritime had (or still has) a similar vessel.
I cvrse them every time I need a zero and it hasn’t been invented yet.
Blame HEC for it’s lines: Herbert Engineering Corp. on LinkedIn: The First NSMV - EMPIRE STATE - Designed and Developed by HEC HEC won a…
Wow HEC screwed up a ship I was on big time during shipyard. Those guys are not the greatest.
They will push cargo max on you too, which to there defense is a great program
