I am trying to find a job as a mariner cook, but I’ve having real difficulties. I have all the credentials ( MMD w/STCW-95, TWIC, H.U.E.T, SERVSAFE, and will have my passport soon, but I was convicted of two possession charges in 2007. I was arrested in 2006 and went through an in house treatment program and have been drug free since 03-22-2006. Can anyone give me any suggestions on who to apply to or any suggestions at all. I really need to work and make a living. PLEASE!!!

Your In Louisiana, just take a ride along Hwy 1 and Hwy90 and stop at any place with that sounds like a boat company. You have all the stuff to work as an OS and an OS that can cook is highly coveted by a captain. Plus you would be getting your sea time to get your AB.
I have been down those roads. Stayed a week knocking doors and handing out my resume and filling out apps but haven’t heard from not one company. But thank you for the suggestion.
Are you just looking to cook or are you willing to work deck? How long ago did you make the trip. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries even if you have experience. They hire on an as need basis and take the first person that walks through the door for Deckhands and dam near most the time for Officers as well.

I am impressed by your honesty, and encourage anyone who has taken these bold steps, do something good about it and continue moving forward. I am sure you will be a valued employee with a strong commitment to your work. Again, good luck. Hope you find what you are looking for, the leads posted should be great places to check. I have sailed union and non-union, both have their good parts and not so bad parts. I would revisit those doors tho. Sometimes the squeaky wheel works good.

@ Seacomber, Thank you so much for those words, it really means a lot. I have also been on hopper dredges that were union, and will be rejoining MM&P as soon as I have the funds to rejoin. Trust me I’m squeaking lol
