Job Description: Deck/Safety Department Instructor START DATE: Immediate
Responsibilities: This position reports directly to the Vice Principal. This position is designed to provide instruction to students and to assist and support the efforts of Curriculum Development Department in the development and implementation of various courses and programs.
The person filling this role will be responsible for the following:

  1. Provide instruction in support of MPT students seeking deck licenses and safety certifications.
  2. Ensuring assigned MPT deck and safety courses are delivered in accordance with the Instructor
    Manual and the regulatory guidance as determined by the approving authority.
  3. Assisting in the development of courses as a subject matter expert to fulfill national and
    international requirements (including STCW and other conventions) of training and assessment
    of personnel.
    Persons seeking to fill this position should be outgoing and confident, must be familiar with the USCG and STCW regulations for deck officers, and have a strong background in maritime courses instructional delivery. Applicants must be well versed and conversant in Microsoft Office and able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency. Applicants must be willing to be a trainee for a period of 60-90 days and possess a 40-hour Train the Trainer: Classroom Instructor certification (this can be provided at MPT if candidate does not possess a current certificate). Additionally, applicants must possess at minimum a USCG or MCA Deck Officer’s License with relevant sea experience OR equivalent military experience as an E-6 or above. A bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred but not required.
    Salary and Benefits Package:
    Starting Salary will be commensurate to license level.
