MMP & AMO Companies

You definitely do not loose it switching companies though and it’s valid for 10 years if I remember correctly.
There’s a website clearancejobs.com it’s like an indeed but for people that have a security clearance.

I’ve never had that experience. I’ve had the same clearance and used it multiple places. I believe that is only true with a CAC.

The misinformation on clearances is as good an illustration as any as to why the forum isn’t more popular/trafficked.

If it’s not Cavo or KC or maybe one or two others it’s usually not worth what you paid to read it.

I could tell a few other secondhand security clearance horror stories, but why bother?

It’s more of a sailing deep sea union issue. Not my problem.

It’s this one. You can change companies but it’s a complicated process from what I hear.

Okay, after doing googling beyond casual bridge conversations with someone with a clearance, It looks like AMO’s plan is to sponsor the clearance, so that you can keep it in an active status while you’re with the union, rather than having to hand off between sponsors.

Having the sponsor be the Union you work for is a good idea so more people can get the clearance and for easier transfer between employers. BUT the process is not cheap and costs money. The companies should be paying for it.
Is AMO going to be footing the bill or are the companies going to?

AMO takes very good care of their members.Star Center is top notch.

I’m not saying they don’t. I am just saying that the Unions shouldn’t be left with the security clearance bill/ costs.
As a MEBA deck officer I get classes reimbursed regardless of the school I take them at. I’ve taken classes through the STAR Center. I agree it is very top notch and I enjoyed the classes I took.

More of a reason they all just need to combine into one union. Having multiple allows them to race to the bottom.

Each union has its own school. MMP has the best contracts. AMO has a separate fleet of good ships. Creating one single Union for the officers would do a lot for making conditions better across the board.

“Best” should be used loosely nowadays. MMP has good contracts and bad contracts. There seems to be no middle ground today. MMP used to have this really good reputation but it seems to have been going down hill the past several years. The MMP is starting to get a repuation of undercutting and crap contracts. Even there neogitation for new contracts sucks. Seacor Captains and Chief Mates are getting paid less than the C/E and 1AE. Usually its the same with Captains making a bit more than the C/E.
Heard a rumor that Don Marcus is going to retire. Maybe he sees the writting on the wall. It might be time for a regime change and some new blood.

Contrary to popular belief, they do represent the industry in fair unison on Capitol Hill. One address for AMO is 700 Pennsylvania Avenue. Suite 530. Washington DC.20003., Bet your ass the other unions have had more than a cup of coffee there discussing strategy trying to protect the members from all the shit thrown at them for DECADES.

What are the MMP pension terms right now? How many years are required to get XYZ?

How about for AMO/MEBA?

AMO does not have a pension anymore.
