Misguided Draft Guidance Causes Bulk Carrier Grounding in Lake Huron

Interesting report, gives a good idea what mariners on the Lakes are up against.

Full report is here.

Yet another black eye for the folks at Grand River and Rand.

Lots of other companies don’t have these issues on the lakes.

Rand scrapes the bottom of the barrel as far as pay and mariner quality, and they get what they pay for.

Not true at all as far as the mariners go. They keep those beat up boats running in the face of all matter of cutbacks. The push to satisfy investors and shareholders at all costs is whats coming home to roost here, which is odd since its not like Rand’s fleets are the only ones owned by hedge funds. They just do it worse and with less regard for their crews and assets than anyone else apparently.

Rand’s American Spirit ran down the Southeast Shoal buoy last night and dragged it six miles.

Another red letter day for the professionals there!

Need to be mindful of where you set your waypoints.

The accidents are waiting to happen with this line. On this forum, go back about 18 days to the Title: Investigation Reveals Navigational Error - M/V American Mariner (something like this…)

This is the same company that runs the M/V Michipicoten. The vessel towed into Thunder Bay, Canada because the hull open up with a load of 25,000 tons of iron ore pellets.

By the postings here, it sounds like seamen are starting to understand what kind of operators these men are. If it ever gets to the point of a terrible catastrophe, the USCG, their Canadien counterparts, all oversight organizations - will have a hand in it.

It was predictable
