Military Sealift Command and UK Qualifications for a U.S. Citizen

Good day, everyone. Newly minted, fully qualified, Officer of the Watch Unlimited II/I with MCA (UK) credentials and U.S. citizen here.

I was born and raised in South Florida. My Dad is English. So, I have dual nationality. I just recently returned from Glasgow, Scotland where I obtained my Officer of the Watch certification. I recently learned about Military Sealift Command and was going to apply for a Third Officer (Deck) position with them, but I’ve been informed that they only accept mariners with US Coast Guard Merchant Mariners credentials from a U.S. training institution. Does anyone know if I can obtain a position with MSC by either (1) Obtaining USCG Merchant Mariner credentials through reciprocity of my UK MCA credentials, or (2) A certain number of years of sea time on a specific type of vessel?

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

I don’t think the US gives reciprocity to any country.

They don’t, and as its been said many times, no STCW courses will be credited if they aren’t from USCG approved providers.

Why not join the RFA if you’re interested in that type of maritime work?

I’m assuming it’s the pay.
