That is tragic. There was a point in my life when crewing one of those schooners out of Camden, Rockland or Rockport was my next plan. I hope those who survived all heal quickly, and that she can be re-masted.

Mainmast broke at the gaff jaws so I wouldn’t anticipate a problem.

There wasn’t any weather to speak of, just rot in the mast. I assume the USCG will be all over this, or do the schooners fall under some loophole?

My knowledge of operations of another schooner in the same Rockland fleet is that they are hauled out in winter and the CG does their inspections at that time.

Seen in Halifax recently:

The small cruise ship “OCEAN NAVIGATOR ” at anchor in Halifax Harbour. In the background, along side Pier 22 in Halifax can be seen the “JEWEL OF THE SEAS”. As an aside. We are not sure why she went to anchor instead of going along side at pier 23 which is her normal spot when she visits. There did not appear to be any tenders operating so it may be that there are no passengers onboard and this is just a technical stop as she has reportedly completed her summer season cruising the Great Lakes.
