I still have a few years till I renew my 3rd mate license. I quit the oil patch when they started cutting pay. I want to take spot jobs to meet the minimum requirement to renew. Are there vessel requirements for the 1 year minimum seatime to not have to take the longer stcw renewal courses, or can I just deckhand on an uninspected fishing vessel? Thanks for any help. The new requirements after 2017 are a bit confusing.
It’s still one year in five or take an open book exam. Call the NMC for specific details or talk to a license consultant but I don’t see why an uninspected fish boat would necessarily disqualify you.
