I found ERM, to be a pretty fun course, especially the simulator part. MEECE was monotonous, and apparently it may be turned into a two week course, with a hands on section, which I will look forward too if that happens, because just the power point slides can just bore a person to death. I found leadership to be very informative with all the case studies. I can see why the IMO would be trying to push these courses. I wish everyone related to the maritime or transportation industry in any form at all were required to take it. A lot about accident prevention and root cause.
For the “Leadership and Teamworking Skills” for OICNW and OICEW, the requirement is to meet the standard of competence in Table A-II/1 or A-III/1 of the STCW Code. That means for OICNW or OICEW, a course is not required. It can be done by completing the relevant assessment for OICNW or OICEW in NVIC 12-14or NVIC 17-14. In comparison, the requirement for Leadership and Managerial Skills is to complete approved training, that means a course is required for Master, Chief Engineer, Chief Mate, and Second Engineer Officer (1st Assistant Engineer).
Anyone know the answer to this?
I am required to take leadership and Teamworking to maintain my current STCW level,II/3, If I take the leadership and managerial skills instead will it cover the requirements for II/3 and also get it out of the way for when I’m upgrade?/QUOTE]

If your II/3 endorsement is for Master, you need the Leadership and Managerial Skills course.
It is for Master less than 500 GT
I also have OICNW limited to Towing vessels under 300 GRT. Thanks for clearing that up for me!
I am currently taking these courses at the school i atten. After i am finish with school i can get D4 and all safety courses i get from school is according to stcw regulation. You need the leadership and management course in order to get the D4 and D1 license. I think you need these to be engineer as well M4 and M1 as they also get these courses at the school i attend, but i’m not 100% sure.
